Wanting to work on getting your endurance up and improve your cardio? Are you a beginner to jogging or starting over, but want to work on getting into shape? Always dreamed of doing a 5k but not sure where to start?
background: Couch to 5k (C25k) is a 9 week program designed to get someone who is starting as a couch potato and get them 5k ready in 9 weeks. Every week you complete an approximately 30 walk/jog combo workout 3 times a week. Each week you gradually increase the intervals so that by the end you are able to jog with minimal walking for a full 5k.
The meetup: I am looking for 10 people to commit to the c25k program over the next few months. The idea is we meet up weekly on Tuesdays on the swamp rabbit trail and complete day 1 of each week of the program together. You will then complete the other 2 days on your own, and then the following week we will progress together to the next weeks itinerary. This is meant to be an accountability group so we will stick to the program. At the end of the program we will participate in a 5k together on Saturday 8/20 (also on the swamp rabbit trl) and the run benefits the boys and girls club of America. -- still interested?? read more!!
Who should participate: This program is ideal for anyone who is a beginner to cardio. I have done this program before and at the start, was barely able to jog 30 seconds at a time and by the end could jog 30 minutes straight. Don't worry about being left behind we will be going straight on the trail and turning around at the halway mark. If certain people get ahead we can meet up with you on the way back.
- If you are already a runner and have a lot of endurance this meetup may not be a good fit, as this will be a combination of walking/jogging (no running).
-While this meetup is designed for begginers **I am not a trainer or a professional by any means** this is meant to be an accountability group. With that said please know your own medical abilities and your personal limitations before signing up.
-*I am interested in this but I only want to walk- should I join?* This particular meetup is aimed for people who want to learn to jog but don't have the endurance currently. If you only want to walk and are not interested in jogging this meetup will not be a good fit, however I will be posting the 5k in August seperately and all our welcome to join!!! :)
-I want to do this but my summer is busy and I will only be able to come to a few of the Tuesday meetings- should I join? Since I have limited the group to 10 ppl and this is an accountability group, please only sign up if you are planning to be able to come each week.
What do I need: a commitment to meet EVERY Tuesday @ 7pm between 5/31 and 8/16 and then Saturday 8/20 to participate in the 5k. The workouts are typically about 30 minutes give or take. It is summer be prepared with water and proper attire, and sneakers. The cost of the 5k in August is $35.00. The app we will be following also has a one time 5.00 fee but tracks all your stats and history so it's worth it. Once our group is created I will reach out to the group with additional details and which particular to download.
I am so excited to start this weekly group and watch us all grow and cheer eachother on, on our journey!!
Do you enjoy Bluegrass music festivals? And hiking?
The 26th Annual Bluff Mountain Music Festival will take place on June 11th, 2022, from 10am to 6pm in Hot Springs, NC featuring live Bluegrass music on the grounds of Hot Springs Resort And Spa. Information about performers can be found the festival can be found here at the Madison County Arts Council website. Food will be available, and downtown restaurants are a short walk away.
The Appalachian Trail passes through Hot Springs, among other trails, offering hiking opportunities. The last time I was here, I hiked up to Lovers Leap overlook where I could see people tubing down the French Broad River, and the town of Hot Springs.
Bring a lawn chair and come listen to some live music, and then perhaps a hike to Lovers Leap, or a walk around downtown Hot Springs. We can arrange something in the comments if there's interest.
I'll try to make there about 10:30am or so. It's a 2 hour trip from Greenville (it was for me), so this one may be more interesting to our North Carolina members who live closer.
