What we're about

Do you enjoy keeping a diary or journal, or have an interest in trying it? Would you like to learn some easy, fun and downright addictive methods for doing so? Would you fancy meeting like-minded people, and getting acquainted through sharing selected journal entries?

You are invited to the monthly meeting of Joyful Journalers, in which we inspire each other to keep a journal, learn methods, and share the results (which is completely voluntary, but arguably the best part)!

Keeping a journal is a personal matter, and there is no “right” way to do so. But for those interested in learning a strategy, I will share a “bullet journaling” method that is part gratitude journal, part self-compassion journal and part therapeutic journal, and completely a joyful activity that will help keep one sane! We will explore other types of journals as well, including nature, travel and prayer journals.

Organizer Daria Doering is an obsessed journaler, former English and writing teacher and editor.

Joyful Journalers Meeting

La Jolla Riford Library

Our next meeting will be from 6-8 pm at the La Jolla Library, 7555 Draper Avenue, in the upstairs History Room. There is always ample street parking either in the library parking lot or on Draper Ave. or nearby streets. Do you ever think of journaling as a way to “clean” your mind of its thoughts? I sure do. Although many people embrace meditation as a way to clean out their thinking minds for a period of time, I would rather record those thoughts in a creative and organized fashion, to clean my mind and help attain peace of mind! At meetings we discuss how we utilize journaling as a practice for creativity, mental health, healing, record-keeping, or however we conceive of it. Those who choose to will share some selections from our journals, so please consider bringing something you would like to share. It can be as light or heavy as you are comfortable with. So please come to this meeting, whether you are an experienced journaler, or someone wishing for some support to get started journaling. I consider journaling the primary practice in my life that “keeps me sane,” and helps me move forward along the path of mental health, healing and creativity! I appreciate all forms of journaling – the more productivity-oriented bullet journaling , creativity-inspiring “morning pages,” mental health and healing journaling, artistic nature or travel journaling, and prayer journaling. In this meetup, my goal is for us to inspire each other in our journaling practices, get to know each other through sharing our writings, and become a close and supportive community.
