Regarding the name change -  I can see "paddlers" being all-inclusive [surf ski's, stand-up paddle boards, canoers, etc] but at the same time, the larger majority of the group are kayakers, and I think the 'categories' know they can join in.  In many cases it's one member with various interests and equipment and they plan/attend events accordingly.  Typically the canoers and SUP's aren't going to participate in a kayak event as they wouldn't keep up and often can't paddle in the same places. Blending an occasional SSki into a kayaking event is a challenge - that paddler usually leaves the group behind.

So it makes no difference to me what we're labeled, it's all about the 'family' we are.  If you can simply change the name, do what you think is best. Iif you have to close HRK out completely and create HRP, then don't fix what aint broke.
Thanks Chuck!

Hello Paddlers!

I want to welcome you into a new year of paddling and fun on the water.  As always this time of year, I caution everyone to be extra safe on the water.  If you don't have the gear to survive a swim in sub 40 degree water, please stay off the water for a while or go buy a wetsuit!  Wear your lifejacket, let someone know where you'll be paddling and when to expect you back.  Paddle with people who have the capability of rescuing you if needed.

In an attempt to be more inclusive, I am considering changing the name of the meetup group from Hampton Roads Kayakers to Hampton Roads Paddlers.  I'd like to hear if any of the members have any thoughts on this first though.  Please let me know if you like it or don't!

Time slips by and all of a sudden a bunch of the members haven't paid their annual meetup dues.  If you have let it slip by or just didn't get around to it, I would greatly appreciate it if you could catch it up sometime in the near future.
