• NYKP: Sunday Morning Session

    Saint Peters University

Our Sunday sessions are aimed at players training for tournament-level competition. We generally start with drills to develop skill, followed by games that are competitive and faster-paced than our other sessions. For this session, you should generally be comfortable with physical play, including both boat and hand tackles, or at least working towards such play. PLEASE SIGN-UP EARLY: A minimum of 8 people are needed to schedule this session. If less than 8 people are signed up 48 hours before the session, the session will be cancelled. The building & pool will be opened for us at 9:00am. If arriving later than 9:30am, please let someone know so we can open the door... or be prepared to wave from the door and wait till someone sees you! On Sundays, we need to be out of the pool and have it ready for the next group by 12:00 noon. Please plan accordingly. Directions: http://www.nykayakpolo.org/location/ Club & Facility Cost: Two free trial sessions are available for newcomers; season or per-session fees are due for everyone else ($20/session, but please see our website for up-to-date season rates). Insurance Cost: ACA Membership or a one-time event fee ($5) for insurance is required and due separately from club and facility fees for all participants (including free trial participants). Newcomers can pay the $5 fee upon arrival (or join the ACA with an introductory or annual membership, ideally in advance). Regulars: please confirm that your ACA membership is up to date. ACA Waivers: every calendar year, all participants must sign a new ACA waiver (paper or online). See Insurance - Paddle Clubs of America section of ACA site, http://www.nykayakpolo.org/the-game/ What to bring: swimsuit, rash guard, towel/shower stuff.

  • NYKP: Wednesday Night Session

    Saint Peters University

Our more advanced session. Targeted at individuals who are ready for fully competitive games (which will involve potential hand tackles) and are interested in training toward being NYKP team members in local/national tournaments. Our senior players direct drills and guide with gameplay. You should be: Comfortable upside-down waiting for an assisted rescue Actively working toward a roll or self-reliant with your wet exit and re-entry (having a roll is strongly recommended) Competent with intermediate to advanced paddling skills and strokes Actively learning and seeking advice for intermediate to advanced kayak polo skills, strategies and rules. PLEASE SIGN-UP EARLY: A minimum of 8 people are needed to schedule this session. If less than 8 people are signed up 48 hours before the session, the session will be cancelled. Wednesday Sessions are targeted at players who have fundamental kayak polo skills and are learning strategy and rules. Expect drills followed by competitive scrimmage. If you don't have experience with kayak polo, or with paddling a closed cockpit kayak with a sprayskirt -- rolling or doing a wet exit -- please attend one of our Saturday Night Sessions first. The pool becomes available at 8:00pm. If arriving later than 8:30pm, please let someone know so we can open the door... or be prepared to wave from the door and wait till someone sees you! Directions: http://www.nykayakpolo.org/location/ Club & Facility Cost: Two free trial sessions are available for newcomers; season or per-session fees are due for everyone else ($250/winter season, $300/Annual, or $20/session). • NYKP: Saturday evening session

    Saint Peters University

PLEASE RSVP EARLY!!! If we do not have at least 8 players by 48 hours ahead the session, we will probably need to cancel. Our Saturday sessions are geared towards basic skill development and scrimmages. They are typically lower intensity than our other sessions, and are often good sessions for first-time polo players or newer paddlers. If you do not have experience paddling a decked kayak (i.e., with a spray skirt) and performing a wet exit, this may still be a good session for you, but please also contact the host to confirm. PLEASE NOTE: If you are not already an ACA member (American Canoe Association), you'll either need to bring the $5 single-event fee, or join/renew with the ACA (which may be done at the session; ACA memberships are $25/year), which is required for our club to retain its ACA status and insurance. If arriving later than 5:30pm, please let someone know so we can open the door... or be prepared to wave from the door and wait till someone sees you! Directions: http://www.nykayakpolo.org/location/ What to bring: gym shorts or swimsuit, poly shirt or rash guard, towel & shower stuff.
