No August BARUG meeting but big plans for the Fall

From: Joseph R.

Greetings fellow BARUG members!

Following what is becoming our summer break tradition, we will not be meeting in August: there will be no “official” August meeting. However, we are busy planning the Fall program. For the September meeting (9/11/12), Olivia Lau and Karl Millar of google will both give talks. Over the next couple of weeks we will finalize the program and settle on a location. Please stay tuned to the meet up site

For the October meeting (10/9/12), we would like to showcase a series of lightning talks from you, our members. We are looking to repeat the success we had with the lightning talk format last December. However, rather than going with the 12 minute format we tried then, the plan is to replicate the intensity of this year’s UseR lightning talk session and try out 5 minute talks with 2 minutes of Q and A. Allowing for some minimal setup time between talks this would permit 10 talks with a 5 minute break at the half way mark.

Unlike last December when all talks were built around a data mining theme this time we are opening it up to your imagination: just submit a talk about “some cool thing you did with R”. There is no set format for the talks; 5 or so power point slides packed with code, or maybe an R script and possibly a demo would all work just fine.

Please send me [address removed] a two or three sentence description of your proposed talk as soon as possible. We, the BARUG organizers, would like to receive all of your submissions by 9/11 so we can choose the talks and give people ample time to prepare.

Enjoy the rest of the summer.

Best regards,

JBR
