Uncover how a French psychiatrist, ill-timed global temperance movement, and good ol' fashioned fake news caused this widely popular spirit to be banned until the 21st century. Join New York Adventure Club (https://www.nyadventureclub.com/) as we taste and learn our way through the (now legal) spirit of absinthe, all inside a 1921 townhouse in Midtown that is now home to the Church of Sweden. Don moved to New York in 2005 after working in Hollywood for over 15 years — when he noticed the hot live jazz scene from the west coast was missing in the Big Apple, he began organizing his own vintage parties, quickly becoming the city's premier event organizer for everything Jazz Age. More recently, Don co-founded the Green Fairy Society, an organization dedicated to absinthe’s history, production, and use — swing by one of his monthly absinthe events to learn about this rare spirit from the industry's movers and shakers. * Must be 21 or older. It is a fun and casual way to meet others in our group who are from your generation. We have chosen The Playwright Irish Pub on 35th because they offer a delicious and diverse menu (MENU LINK) as well as a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Here is how it works: Arrive at The Playwright between 6:30-7pm for cocktails and socializing at the bar. At 7pm the group will be randomly seated at a table (or tables depending on the size of the group) to continue conversations and to order food. It will be about 15-20 minute before all the orders come out so you have a nice chance to chat with those around you. Just before the food comes out you will pull a number out of a hat and everyone will switch seats so that you are surrounded by all new people! At the end of the meal everyone gets separate checks so you pay only for what you ordered. Can I come alone? Yes, most f the people will come alone but you are welcome to invite a friend or two. Dress code: business casual Age restrictions: This event is for people 50+ years old. If you are 49 and feel more comfortable socializing with the older group no worries but we ask that no one under 49 register. Can I come for just drinks and not the dinner? No Cost: $10 in advance goes to pay for your hosts dinner for that night. You will be responsible for whatever you order that night.

This week we will be at the Mondrian Terrace at the Hotel Mondrian on Park Avenue South. We like to keep the atmosphere casual and relaxed with music played at conversational levels plus there will be a few games with prizes throughout the evening. It will be a fun way for long time and new members to come together to network, connect mix and mingle. It is especially a great way for new members to find out about the group, the events and the people that are part of NYSN and our network of social groups. What to expect: Doors open at 6pm (it is best to arrive between 6-7:30pm for maximum socializing) NYSN staff will be at the front desk to welcome you and introduce you to others in the group. We'll have several ice breaker games for you to play with prizes. Most people start leaving by 9:30pm Drink specials until 8pm. Can I come alone? Yes, 98% of those attending this event will likely register on their own. You welcome to bring as many non member guests, friends & co workers as you’d like, just make sure to register for the number of people that you want below. Our staff will be ready to greet you and introduce you to others whether you are on your own or with guests. Do I need a ticket? No, you can just show up. But it helps to RSVP in case there are any last minute changes. How many people usually Attend? Normally 60-80 Dress Code: At all events we ask that you use your best judgement based on the event. There are never jackets and ties required unless specifically stated. Keep it neat, be yourself and look your best always. How will I find the group? We will send you a confirmation email with exact locations, contact info and names of those who are hosting the event when you register for the event and send follow up emails as we get closer. Ages: 21+ Most of our events attract 20’s -40’s although some events can skew younger or older (50’s) depending on the event. Some events are clearly age specific as indicated.
