Tickets: $25 – 29 Click the link below to register for this event: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/200-years-of-new-york-city-fashion-registration-90300371843 Did you know that as recently as the 1960s, more than 95% of the apparel purchased within the United States was produced in New York City’s Garment District? While the bulk of today's garment manufacturing has moved overseas, the city still remains a powerful force in the globalized apparel industry, and a leading source of innovation — this is the story of fashion in New York, and the lives of the legendary designers, image-makers, and style icons who shaped American fashion over the past 200 years. Join New York Adventure Club (https://www.nyadventureclub.com/) on a crash-course through the history of fashion in New York, from the revolutionary impact of its ready-to-wear garment industry in the 1800s, to its current role as a global fashion capital. Led by fashion historians Sara Idacavage and Tessa Maffucci, this intimate salon-style lecture and presentation hosted inside a private apartment — one which still contains remnants of its former days as a garment factory — will include: • A deep dive into how New York designers challenged the dictatorship of French fashion, and developed a unique sense of style that became known as “The American Look” • An overview of New York’s most iconic fashion designers, from Claire McCardell to Tom Ford • A discussion about the importance of media in the rise of New York fashion • The history of New York as a shopping mecca, and how department stores and factories shaped the built environment that we still navigate • Stories of New York’s garment workers and laborers, which remind us that the fashion industry isn’t always glitz and glamour Afterward, we'll mingle over complimentary snacks and bubbly with your fellow fashion adventurers, while having the chance to interact with historical objects brought in from Sara's personal fashion archive! See you there! *Attendees with pet allergies should take precaution as the private apartment has a dog **This presentation is limited to 30 guests About Sara & Tessa Sara Idacavage is a fashion historian, archivist, and vintage collector with a background in fashion journalism. IF YOU ONLY SIGN UP HERE, THIS DOES NOT RESERVE YOUR SPOT/HOLD YOUR TICKET. YOU MUST CLICK ON THE LINK TO PRE-PAY This event is for our members who wish to meet other LGBTQ members. Let's face it even through Speed Dating can be a little corny, it is a great way to meet a ton of potential dates in a short period of time. Why not take that concept and apply it to making friends and connections in other ways? Join us for this fun and interesting evening where you will meet more people in 60 minutes than you could meet in a whole month on your own! Our Speed Socializing Party is designed to be perfect for people who are new to the city, tired of their current social circles, looking for new friends and connections, share common interests or maybe even make business connections within the LGBTQ community. The night will feature ice breaker games with prizes and several rounds of speed socializing. The age range for this event is 20's and 30's.Here's how it works: Arrive at The Playwright Irish Pub between 6:30pm-7pm for registration and your code name and number. Everyone will be given a "Social Sheet". This is where you can jot down the name and code numbers of those you want to share your info with. This is the only way that you will be expected to exchange info during the event. To get things going we will have an ice breaker game to liven up the atmosphere. Following that we'll have everyone head to the Common Interests Corner (a quirky way of putting people with common interests together). Finally, we'll start our Speed Socializing rounds where you will randomly socialize with at least 15 people for 3 minutes each using both prepared and your own questions that will help you find people you may want to stay in contact with. Please note that you will be paired with both men and women. When the socializing rounds are finished you can stay at the bar and continue conversations with the people you met. Rules: You may give your personal or professional info to someone but you CAN NOT ask for someone else's. No last names. No asking someone for a date (you can do this at a later time if you find you have that type of connection). This just takes the pressure off everyone. If you are there to sell real estate, promote a pyramid or ponzi scheme or ask inappropriate questions you will be asked to leave. How will I find the group? We will send you a confirmation email with exact locations, contact info and names of those who are hosting the event when you register. We will send follow up emails as we get closer, usually the night before or morning of. Ages: 20's and 30's ONLY Who Comes to These?: Our activities attract NY Professionals from all backgrounds and professions who are looking to expand their social circles. You will also find others who are looking to learn something, network for business, try something they have never done before or enjoy something they love doing but can’t get their friends to do. There may also be some people looking to find that someone special who share a passion for the same activities (but don’t make this the sole reason you come out).
