You may have heard of the Multidimensional Polyphonic Expression protocol (MPE) recently added to the MIDI spec, without knowing what MPE actually is or what it does for expressive control of synthesizers. In this month's meetup, participants will have a chance to learn the basics of MPE and try a variety of MPE controllers themselves.

Mike Metlay will set up several stations, each with a different controller and software app. After a brief explanation of MPE, users can try out the various stations for themselves. While waiting to try a station enjoy hanging out and and connecting with fellow synth geeks.

The format of the meetup will be an "open house"; participants can come and go as they please and take turns with the workstations. Mike will explain MPE a few times during the allotted meetup time, so latecomers won't be in the dark.

Currently planned for the meetup:

Roger Linn Design Linnstrument
ROLI Seaboard Block
ROLI Lightpad Block M
Sensel Morph
Joué

Please bring your own headphones with a miniplug connector as well as 1/4"; we can't guarantee availability of headphones on site.

As attendance is limited to 35 people with only five stations available :

  • Feel free to show up any time during the event as opposed to rushing to get there at the start time. This will help us distribute people across the night.

  • If you RSVP "YES" and later you find you can't make it, please take a moment to switch your RSVP back to "NO".

We look forward to seeing you there!
