Future Making: Politics and Aesthetics in Kazakhstan - SF Speculative Futures
This event requires tickets. Please buy tickets in advance via Eventbrite (so we can ensure we have the right amount of food for everyone!). Eventbrite Link: DESCRIPTION We are thrilled to have Noteh Krauss with us on October 18 at the YBCA in San Francisco to discuss “Future Making: Politics and Aesthetics in Kazakhstan.” Noteh Krauss is an explorer and thinker interested in the metaphysical fabrics that create our life experience. Noteh graduated from McGill University in Political Science (First Class Honours) and in Graphic Design from Parsons School of Design. Through both degrees, Noteh studied the modes in which design becomes propagated into – and conditions – our lived experience on a personal and societal basis. Noteh founded Aesthetic Dimension, a strategic design firm based in San Francisco and Toronto. Noteh has spoken at San Francisco Design Week and, recently, at Primer EU in Helsinki, Finland. “Future Making: Politics and Aesthetics in Kazakhstan” Astana, Kazakhstan's new capital, is the largest speculative futures project ever undertaken. In this meetup Noteh Krauss will present his lecture from Primer EU on this incredible design space and what we we can learn from it as practitioners. Astana's goal was to change Kazakh culture forever by using futuristic architecture and through this, a complete re-design of modes of being in Kazakhstan. Through this story, we come to a better understanding of the process of concept to materiality - and how we can successfully apply lessons from Astana into our own practices.
