What we're about

The Buffalo Chips Running Club is the Sacramento area’s largest, oldest, and most friendly running club. Although some speedy Chips belong, the majority of our members are beginning runners, recreational joggers, and middle- to back-of-the-pack fun run participants. We have a walkers group of Buffalo Chips too, and a very active youth program, the Chip Youths. Join us for safe, friendly, advice-filled runs, jogs, or walks at one of our many workout locations. You need not be a member to participate, but once you give it a try, you won’t be able to resist joining to take advantage of all the great perks available to card-carrying Buffalo Chips. Click here to join the club as a member.  Non-members are required to acknowledge and sign a liability waiver before participation.

Sunday Run--"Johnny Cash Memorial Trail"

Karen's Bakery

Where Are We Headed?

Starting from Karen's Bakery, we will head through Old-Town Folsom to connect on to the "Johnny Cash Memorial Trail", which is a hilly, paved trail for about three miles. Coming back near the start of the California International Marathon, we will catch the American River Parkway Trail, and return to Old-Town Folsom.

The total distance is just over seven miles.

Typically, someone is there at this location fifteen minutes before the listed starting time should you want to engage in some pre-workout stretching.

Members of the non-profit Buffalo Chips Running Club organize many training and racing events in the Greater Sacramento Area. Everyone may participate. If you are not a club member yet, please sign this liability waiver prior to joining us for any events.

If you like what we are doing, you may consider joining us as a full member at a very modest annual fee. Click here for club membership.

River Park Speed Workout

Glenn Hall Park

We'll meet at 5:45 pm near the entrance to Glenn Hall Park for announcements. The workout starts immediately after and includes a warm up jog, interval workout, and cool down jog for a total of 4 - 7 miles. Please check our website for more information on this workout and other club activities here.

Workout: 4 x 800 @5k /400rec , 4 x 400 @5k-10sec/200

Our runners are great at many things, but RSVPing is not necessarily one of them. Generally about 30 runners participate.

Participants run in separate groups depending on intended pace. Our course is exactly one mile long in the mostly shady River Park neighborhood. Since streets are not closed, it is vital that all runners stay to the left of the road and are alert to possible traffic.

Please take care to follow parking signs in the neighborhood. There is plenty of parking you may just need to go a block or two over from the park. We are guests in this neighborhood and ask everyone to be respectful of residents.

If you are not (yet) a registered member of the Buffalo Chips Running Club, please sign our liability waiver here. Members do not have to sign this waiver.

Saturday Run--Big Wave Coffeehouse **New Saturday Starting Time**

Big Wave Coffeehouse

Where Are We Headed?

Beginning in the parking lot of the coffee shop, we run on a short trail that connects to the paved running trail which borders Lake Natoma on the south side. From there, we head upstream, eventually navigating through Old Town Folsom, crossing the Rainbow Bridge, and catching the American River Parkway Trail near the 27.5-mile marker. Some may make the loop around Lake Natoma, for a total distance of just under thirteen miles, whereas others may decide to make it an out-and-back course, by continuing up the American River Parkway Trail to catch the steeper hills on the way to Folsom Lake.

Distance and pace will be determined by the participants and their individual training plans.

Typically, someone is there at this location fifteen minutes before the listed starting time should you want to engage in some pre-workout stretching.
