About The Speaker: J Martin is the Founder and Moderator of the San Francisco Bay Real Estate Networking Summit (http://www.sfbaysummit.com/). Starting by living paycheck to paycheck with negative net worth, J started buying real estate in the SF Bay Area in 2012 after carefully studying the real estate market and jumping in when the best risk-adjusted returns seemed realizable - and retired in 2016 from the "9 to 5" at 31 years old.
Starting with a 4-plex purchase with an FHA loan with $12K borrowed from a credit card, J partnered with other investors and combined leverage to acquire a portfolio of high-cash-flowing real estate in the SF Bay Area. From FHA to wholesale deals, probate to Fannie-Mae foreclosures, single families to 4-plexes, 100% financing to 100% cash, and from rehabs to furnished rentals, J has a variety of experience in his personal real estate investments. J is now growing a furnished rental business catering to traveling nurses and business travelers from San Jose to Richmond. J is also well-versed in aspects of residential and commercial financing, furnished rentals, Oakland and Richmond markets, and Oakland rent control.
J's real estate and financing background expanded during his tenure in Bank Regulation for over 7 years, beginning in the financial crisis. After studying real estate deals and growing a burgeoning real estate portfolio of his own, he declined a lead supervision role on behalf of the State of CA for a $50 Billion Bank, before retiring from the "9-5 job" at 31yo to live his dreams - traveling the US and World, while managing his business remotely. He recently returned from a 3-month cross country road trip this Summer, and will heading out to Thailand and SE Asia, after the his Real Estate Networking Summit (http://www.sfbaysummit.com/).
Prior to his service to the State of CA in Bank Regulation and pursuit of Real Estate, J graduated from San Francisco State University with a major in Economics and minor in Finance. He runs a large Real Estate Networking meetup in San Francisco (https://www.meetup.com/REmeetup/), and a large Oakland meetup (https://www.meetup.com/LakeMerritt/) for fun things to do in the East Bay. He regularly volunteers and organizes volunteers to help clean up the Eastlake Neighborhood of Oakland, and has even got a kiss from Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf for his service to the community!
About the Presentation: At this meeting of the SJRENC J Martin will discuss how he got started in real estate and has used real estate to create his desired lifestyle. He'll go into detail on how he acquired cash flowing rentals in the Bay Area that meet the elusive 1% rule. J will also tell you how he built his furnished apartment business from a $1500/mo enterprise to over $50k/month in less than 2 years.
