• Hub Members Movie Night
Secular Hub members are invited to hang out and watch a movie on our BIG screen at the Secular Hub on Thursday nights! Drinks, snacks, and popcorn will be available for sale. Doors will be open at 6:30pm and the movie will begin at 7:00pm. Tonight's movie: TUMBLEWEEDS Mary Jo Walker constantly moves from town to town with her 12-year-old daughter to escape failed relationships, and all of her relationships wind up failing. Making a fresh start in San Diego, Mary Jo takes up with a controlling trucker, while at work she fights with her new, strange boss. Meanwhile, her daughter discovers that she fits in at school, and is chosen for a lead role in the school play. This endearing comedy/drama stars Academy Award-nominee Janet McTeer ("As You Like It," "Tideland") as the wayward mother, and Emmy Award-nominee Kimberly J. Brown ("The Little Polar Bear," "Bringing Down the House"). This is a recurring weekly event, subject to other secular events that require the Secular Hub space. We'll make sure to update the meetup each week with the movie selection and notify when they are cancelled. Note: Secular Hub meetings such as movie night are open only to dues paying members of the Secular Hub. Sign up on line at http://www.secularhub.org/membership-2/ or in person at the Hub.

  • Freethinkers in AA
A 12-Step support group meeting for those struggling with religious beliefs, the idea of a god, or of a higher power someplace "out there" expressed in most AA meetings. Our goal is to recover a healthy, non-theistic understanding of the 12-Step process, enabling the individual to find the power for change within himself or herself. Since this is an anonymous group, actual attendance is never listed, Meetings average 20 to 30 every Monday and Saturday. Our meetings are open to anyone interested in how the 12 Steps can work for anyone, alcoholic or not, pretending nothing.

  • Coffee & Community
Join us for coffee, community, and discussion every Sunday morning at the Hub! Look, we know you don't have to get up and go to church on Sunday morning, but after sleeping in some, you can make your way over to the Secular Hub to hang out and talk with like minded friends. New Attendees: Note that the number of RSVPs generally does not reflect the number of attendees, as many regulars show up without RSVPing. We generally have about 15-20 people. Note: Coffee and Community is free and open to the public. A key benefit of the Secular Hub is the physical meeting space it provides free-of-charge to local secular groups. To help pay the bills, the Hub collects membership dues and limits some activities to dues-paying members as a perk. If you are not yet a member of the Hub, please feel free to stop in for an 'open' event, enjoy the company of your fellow heathens, and see what the Hub is about. If you like what you see, help support the local secular community and gain access to further secular events/opportunities by becoming a member. You can sign up in person or online at https://www.secularhub.org/membership.php

  • Dinner & Documentary: Occupation of the American Mind
Join us for a potluck dinner and documentary viewing. This month the film was selected by special guest David Barsamian, host and producer of Alternative Radio. 5pm potluck dinner. 6pm Documentary screening and discussion afterwards. About Occupation of the American Mind Polling shows strong global opposition to Israel’s illegal 50-year occupation of Palestinian land, and mounting outrage over Israel’s ongoing slaughter of unarmed Palestinian civilians who are fighting for their rights. Nevertheless, public sympathy and support for Israel within the US continues to hold strong. The Occupation of the American Mind zeroes in on this critical exception, breaking down the devastatingly effective public relations war that Israel and right-wing pro-Israel advocacy groups have been waging for decades in the US. Narrated by Roger Waters and featuring leading observers of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict, the film explores how the Israeli government, the US government, and the pro-Israel lobby have joined forces, often with very different motives and interests, to shape American media coverage of the conflict in Israel’s favor. The result is a stunning look at how — and why — American media coverage of the conflict regularly minimizes the occupation, vilifies critics of Israeli policy, and dehumanizes the Palestinian people. About David Barsamian: One of America's most tireless and wide-ranging investigative journalists, David Barsamian has altered the independent media landscape. His weekly radio program Alternative Radio is now in its 32nd season. His books with Noam Chomsky, Eqbal Ahmad, Howard Zinn, Tariq Ali, Richard Wolff, Arundhati Roy and Edward Said sell around the world.

Doors will be open at 6:30pm and the movie will begin at 7:00pm. This week's movie: DIE HARD Facing Christmas 3,000 miles from his estranged wife and two children, New York policeman John McClane (Bruce Willis) flies to Los Angeles bearing presents and hoping to patch up his marriage. Stylish and cool Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) is in Los Angeles as well for the holiday season, but he's not there to give out presents. He's there to take: more than $600 million in negotiable bearer bonds from the multinational Nakatomi Corporation, where McClane's wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) is an executive. When the takeover becomes hostile, it's up to John McClane to take on the terrorists with all the grit and determination he can muster--but not without a sense of humor. This is a recurring weekly event, subject to other secular events that require the Secular Hub space. • Community Connections - North Side
Don't have time to drive to the Secular Hub? Let's connect closer to home. This is one of four exploratory meetings for those interested in building connections and community with like-minded individuals in the North Metro area. Join us to get acquainted and discuss what kinds of activities and schedules would work for you and others in the communities north of Denver. For this first sequence of meetups, we will meet at Panera Bread at 100 East 120th Ave in Northglenn. This is just off the I-25 exit for 120th Avenue near Community Center Drive and the SCL Health Community Hospital. Come buy a pastry, a beverage, or a light meal, and meet with others to explore ideas for future events. Panera is a fast-casual, pay-at-the-counter format so there is minimum interaction with staff meaning we can come and go at our leisure. Look for the group to the left after you enter the restaurant. We will try to get the tables and bench seats under the gas fireplace/room partition. Look for a table top Meetup sign to help identify the group. If you can't make it to any of these start-up meetings but really want to be involved, let us know in the comments section what else would work for you.
