Humanism At The Hub - Atheism: Types and Myths

Apparently, there are many lists of the types of atheism. Jerry selected a list that he will present based on research done at the University of Tennesee. They identified 6 types that are organized differently from most lists. Actually, these are just different ways of looking at atheism since you can identify with more than one type. Let's discuss each one as it may apply to you, or just give an opinion of it. You may believe in a different type of atheism.

Numerous surveys over the years rank atheists as one of the least popular groups of people. This low popularity is due to religious dominance in the U.S. & many other countries. Seeing atheism as a threat to this dominance, many religious organizations & individuals have generated & spread false information about atheism and atheists. These misrepresentations are also due to ignorance, as those who accept religious perspectives simply don’t read scientific literature.

The Hub and Humanists of Colorado Chapters of the American Humanist Association are very pleased to offer a regular explorations series on the 4th Saturdays, 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Each session will be slightly different and include several segments to showcase aspects of Humanism through a presentation, videos, movies, forums and explorations, followed by discussions. We will include time for participants to socialize and get acquainted, in keeping with the chapters goals of building community.
