What we're about

This group is for any women who sail or want to sail in and around the South Coast area (Portsmouth, Southampton, Isle of Wight, Lymington, Brighton, Chichester, and beyond) and would like to meet other women who love sailing. All experience levels are welcome, including anyone just starting out in sailing or returning to sailing. Our members go sailing in both women only and mixed crews, but this meet up is just for women. Whilst it is mainly sailing activities, we do run occasional social and other events based on member interests.

Fees and charges for any sailing or social activities and events vary depending on the activity but we try to keep them as low as possible, whilst obviously having to cover actual costs.

SheSails is a non profit making organisation run by volunteers that aims to increase participation in sailing by women and girls and have fun on the water. We work in partnership with commercial sea sailing schools to access the boats and instructors.

You will be given a chance to get involved in different crew tasks, including helming if you want to, or can just sit back and enjoy being on the water. They will be social relaxed circular sails along the coastline or out to the Solent Forts and back, intended to make the most of the lighter evenings. Come on your own or with a friend, you will find everyone is very welcoming.

The skipper will usually be an experienced SheSails member with RYA Day Skipper qualification or above, though occasionally may be an RYA instructor. There will be between 6 and 8 people on the boat, with the boat size dependent on the number booking but likely to be 35-40ft [masked]m).

Full joining details and guidance on what to bring/wear/expect etc will be provided once you have paid, but if you are new to sailing and have any questions please do message the organiser before or after booking.

Please take note of our strict cancellation policy. We are a non profit group and the charter will only take place if we have enough people to cover our costs. If we cannot cover our costs or the event is cancelled by SheSails for any reason, you will be refunded or can have a credit for use against a future event. In ALL other circumstances no refund will be given unless your place can be filled by another SheSails member. We do operate a waiting list, and will try to find a replacement, but this is not guaranteed.

If the Meetup is shown as full please put yourself on the waitlist and look out for messages. We do occasionally get cancellations.

SheSails Charter - Social Sailing Day July 2nd 2022

Needs a location

£95.00

An opportunity to be part of a group chartering a yacht for a day and enjoying a social sailing day in the Solent in company with other SheSails members. A qualified RYA instructor will skipper the boat, offering instruction and guidance. No previous sailing experience is necessary, all levels welcome.

Please note that this is a yacht charter event and not a sailing school organised activity. Please read the T&Cs carefully to ensure you understand the implications of this before confirming your interest.

We will leave the marina after a short safety brief and make our way out into the Solent. Our destination will be determined by the conditions and tides on the day, but could be Cowes or anywhere on the Isle of Wight, the Beaulieu River or Chichester Harbour.

What you want to get out of the day will be up to you, either learning the ‘ropes’ of sailing, wind awareness, sailing terminology and how to sail or concentrating on particular areas you wish to develop your skills in. You can get involved as little or as much as you like, with opportunities to take the helm, rope work, changing and hoisting sails, or simply sitting back and enjoying the experience.

Bring your own lunch which will be had either at anchor or at a sheltered destination in the Solent, giving you time to relax. All onboard safety equipment is provided.

The boat will be 35-40ft [masked]m) with 6-8 people on board. The skipper will be a RYA qualified instructor. We do aim to provide a female skipper, but this is not always possible. To confirm your place please RSVP, make full payment AND complete the form using the link provided. Your place on the sailing day will only be confirmed once both payment and the form have been received.

Payment of £95 upfront is required for this event.

SheSails Weekend Sail July 15-17th 2022 (Boat 1)

Needs a location

£225.00

A fantastic chance to get out on the water for a fun and social weekend of sailing in the Solent, with a lunch stop at anchor on both days weather permitting. We will stop overnight Saturday in a Marina or on a visitor buoy/pontoon. Saturday night destination will be confirmed nearer the time and will depend on tides and conditions, but will probably be Lymington, Yarmouth, Beaulieu or Chichester Harbour. If possible, and depending on timing and conditions, we may sail Friday evening as well.

No previous sailing experience is required. Everyone who wants to will be given a chance to helm and navigate, with guidance provided if you are a beginner. Over the weekend we will share crew roles and tasks both when we are out sailing and once in the marina e.g. food preparation and cleaning.

The Skipper will either be a SheSails member with an RYA Coastal Skipper qualification or an RYA instructor. There will be 8 people on board and we will be on a 35-37ft boat. Accommodation will be in 3 x shared cabins, with 2 people sleeping in the saloon.

The weekend is on a shared costs basis and your fee includes the boat charter, marina fees, fuel, food and drink. Advance booking and payment of £225 is required. Food and drink for the weekend will be provided, with the exception of Saturday night where we will eat ashore, most likely in a local pub.

Please note that this is a yacht charter event and not a sailing school organised activity. Please read the T&Cs carefully to ensure you understand the implications of this before confirming your interest.

Payment upfront and completion of the booking form is required for this event. Your place will not be confirmed until we receive both.

Please take note of our strict cancellation policy. We are a non profit group and the charter will only take place if we have enough people to cover our costs. If we cannot cover our costs or the event is cancelled by SheSails for any reason, you will be refunded or can have a credit for use against a future event.
