Your participation in any of our activities is your acknowledgment that you are solely responsible for your own assessment of your abilities and your physical fitness to participate in that activity. Walkers must be physically fit and by joining any event you agree to waive all rights and claims for damages against Shorewalkers, it’s officers, directors, hike leaders, employees, event personnel or volunteers.

Shorewalkers does not tolerate inappropriate behavior during its events. If you are subject to or witness any inappropriate behavior during a Shorewalker event, please contact the Shorewalker Meetup Organizers directly and report the behavior. Shorewalkers will investigate any reports of inappropriate behavior and take necessary action.

We encourage and appreciate posting pictures taken during Shorewalkers events. Shorewalkers reserves the right to use the photos in any manner and for any reason, except for commercial purposes, without renumeration or credit.

Saxon Woods Lollipop

Mamaroneck Metro North Station

A medium length hike through Saxon Woods, starting in Mamaroneck, traveling through Scarsdale, and White Plains. Let’s meet at the Mamaroneck Metro North Station at 9:30 am. We’ll start off walking on the streets of Mamaroneck til we get to the Colonial Greenway Trail, and we’ll take that into Saxon Woods Park. We’ll walk a loop in Saxon Woods before exiting the park for a short street walk to the Weinberg Nature Center and back down to Mamaroneck. Total distance 8-10 miles, depending on the loop we take. Restroom availability is hit and miss due to Covid. Please use the train restroom if possible. Bring lunch and water. Dress for the temperature please. Closed toe shoes or sneakers required. Please don't sign up unless you are definitely attending This hike is limited to 15 hikers, Shorewalkers members (free with digital membership card (on the dashboard of your Shorewalkers.org page) and non members with a $3 donation. Virtual Great Saunter

Any where you want - you choose your route

Registration is Open for the Virtual Great Saunter! Grab your walking shoes and join Shorewalkers around the world for the first-ever Virtual Great Saunter to be held Friday, October 2, 2020 through Sunday, October 18, 2020! Register to participate in the Virtual Great Saunter on the Shorewalkers web site: https://shorewalkers.org/great-saunter/ You must register on the Shorewalkers web site to participate - but then also sign up here on Meetup to share ideas, routes, photos and achievements and follow the progress of your fellow Saunterers. From Friday, October 2, 2020 through Sunday, October 18, 2020, walk any route you choose in as many segments as you like - in any park, promenade, sidewalk, trail or treadmill in any country, state, city, town, village, neighborhood or home. Complete your walk in one day or walk a few miles a day to go the full 32-mile distance during the 16 days. As a registered Virtual Great Saunter participant, you’ll receive an official walk bib and official face mask - a reversible, triple-layered, moisture-wicking face mask with the Virtual Great Saunter logo. Please register by September 10, 2020 in order to receive the bib and face mask. Once you complete your 32 miles of virtual sauntering, download your Virtual Great Saunter certificate from the Virtual Great Saunter page at shorewalkers.org as a record of your success. As you walk, track your miles on the Strava smart phone app and join the Shorewalkers Strava page to share your progress and and follow the progress of fellow walkers: https://www.strava.com/clubs/shorewalkers-716502 Post photos and updates about your Virtual Great Saunter here on Meetup or by using the hashtag #virtualgreatsaunter on Faceook, Twitter and Instagram. The cost of an individual Shorewalker membership including the Virtual Great Saunter is $25 and you may add up to 3 family and friends at $15 each. On September 14, we'll mail bibs and face masks to the address on file for the total number in your group. Please check that the mailing address on file is where you would like to receive the materials. U.S. registrants should receive their mailing before October 2, 2020; we will mail bibs and face masks to international registrants but can't guarantee when you will receive the mailing.

Saunter Stretch - part 1 of 3 (weekday series)

Porterhouse at Fraunces Tavern

DESCRIPTION: We will walk 32 miles over 3 consecutive weekdays circumnavigating Manhattan along the original Great Saunter (GS) route. Day 1: stretch 1 of 3 of the GS route, about 12 miles, 4.5 hours. Fraunces Tavern to W 145th Street. (see separate Meetup Events for stretch 2 = Oct 6 and stretch 3 = Oct 7) Meet at 10:30am at Fraunces Tavern located at 54 Pearl St, 2 blocks from the South Ferry Terminal. Fraunces Tavern will not be open so plan to use restrooms located upstairs at South Ferry Terminal prior to meeting (also plenty along the route). We will follow the Great Saunter route up the Hudson River to W 145th Street. Our first restroom stop is Chelsea Piers (4 Mi). We’ll then continue through Hudson River Park into Riverside Park South. Let’s plan to have lunch around 1:30 at Pier I in Riverside Park at 70th Street (7 Mi). Restrooms are available. Continue on the Riverside Park path past Fairway to the stairs leading to Riverbank State Park at 145th Street. Walk ends at Broadway & 145th where you’ll find the 1 train. Saunter Stretch - part 2 of 3 (weekday series)

145th Street and Broadway

DESCRIPTION: We will walk 32 miles over 3 consecutive weekdays circumnavigating Manhattan along the original Great Saunter (GS) route. Day 2: stretch 2 of 3 of the GS route: about 11 miles, 4 hours. W 145th Street to E 145th Street. (see separate Meetup Event for stretch 3 = Oct 7) Meet at 10:30am at 145th and Broadway next to the McDonalds and outside the 1 train stop. We’ll walk into Riverbank State Park and then take the stairs down to the Great Saunter route. Walk north through Fort Washington Park and into Inwood Hill Park (5 Mi) where restrooms are available and we'll take a short break. Pack a lunch or snack. Then we head south along the Harlem River Path through Harlem River and High Bridge Parks. Walk beneath the Washington, Alexander Hamilton and High bridges and then over the ramp at 155th Street. Taking Edgecombe Avenue walk along the Park down to 145th Street, where we end Stretch #2. The A-C-B-D trains are on the corner or walk 4 Avenue blocks to reach the 1 train at 145th and Broadway, back to where we started in the morning.
