What we're about

Sign up to host your own Shut Up & Write!

For online events, check out our Online Events Meetup.

Shut Up & Write hosts free in-person and online writing events for writers all over the world. Our goal is to ensure that every writer, regardless of genre or skill level, has access to the community, accountability, and resources they need to be successful in their personal writing goals. Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, a period of focused writing, and a final check-in to share our progress.

What to Expect

RSVP and please arrive 10–15 minutes early to get settled at an in-person event. Our host will lead introductions and then everyone will write for a quiet, focused period of time.

Afterward, feel free to get to know each other. Members often talk about their successes and challenges as writers. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

Shut Up & Write!® [Burlingame Ave - Joe & The Juice]

JOE & THE JUICE

Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 4:30pm on Tuesday Evening.

Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.

SCHEDULE:

  • 4:30 - Quick introductions
  • 5:00 - Timer starts: write for 1 hour
  • 6:00 - The End: Location Closes: Take-Off or Chat at another location
  • OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens outside the venue (Location closes at 6:00pm). Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing.

BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. (I’ll be the person with the Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.

Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you at JOE & THE JUICE!

Shut Up & Write!™ Silicon Valley (Mountain View Downtown)

Mountain View Public Library

Bring your own writing project to work on in the company of other writers!

This event is Indoors, and at the Mountain View Library. We will meet in the lobby of the library, and go together to the study room reserved for us (seats 6-7).

PARKING: There is a free parking garage above CVS at California and Bryant that usually has free parking spots, and the surface lot, 'Lot 20' on California, behind the Peet's building is large and also free. Mountain View Library also has free parking.

WIFI: The Library has free wifi, and so does the city of Mountain View.

Please be sure to update your RSVP if plans change. We love it when you RSVP! There are 2-4 regulars who come weekly and sometimes forget to RSVP so if you see me bring a lot of guests, that is what is going on.

Agenda:

7:00 - 7:15: Socialize and Chat

7:15 - 8:15: Shut Up and Write! (independent writing session)

8:15 - 8:30: Chatting and/or good byes.
