Astronomy on Tap: Taking a closer look - with gravity!
Do you like discussing astronomy and space exploration topics? Do you like beer? We thought so too and we have some amazing news! Astronomy on Tap is here! Astronomy on Tap is not your typical science lecture. You will listen to talks by professional astronomers, scientists, and educators about a wide variety of space-related topics ranging from planets to black holes to galaxies to the beginning of the Universe. All this in the informal setting of a pub. In this last AoT of 2018, Professor Henk Hoekstra and graduate student Christos Georgiou will tell us how we can use gravity as a magnifying glass to find what the Universe is made of! Henk Hoekstra is a professor of observational cosmology at Leiden University. His research focuses on mapping the dark matter distribution using weak gravitational lensing, which will help shed light on the dark side of the Universe. In this talk, he will explain why cosmologists believe in invisible matter and space with negative pressure, and how they hope to make progress in the coming decade. Christos Georgiou is a PhD student of Astronomy in Leiden University. He is interested in understanding how the Universe begun and evolved into the way it looks like today. To do this, he is using the weak-gravitational lensing technique, which helps understand the matter distribution and statistical properties of the Universe. In his talk he will explain how gravity distorts spacetime, and how we can use this to study the Universe. All ages and backgrounds welcome! The entry is free and no reservation is needed. We start at 20h but recommend you arrive early to save a seat and grab a drink. And of course, beside the talks, we will have fun games where you can win cool science prizes! What we're about

We host fun and practical astronomy and space-science events. No previous experience or knowledge in the industry or science is needed to attend. Only passions for innovation and space exploration!

This is a group created by Space enthusiasts for Space enthusiasts. We welcome anyone interested in:
    - Astronomy
    - the Space industry
    - Aerospace engineering
    - Space startups
    - Astrophysics
    - Space exploration
    - Mars colonization
    - Planetary science
    - Astrophotography
    - Search for extraterrestrial life

    - Anything else related to Space and Science.

We want to meet like-minded people interested in joining a strong community around Space Exploration, exchanging ideas, learning from each other, and spreading the word. We aim to organize meetings on regular basis covering various topics and guest speakers.
