What we're about

Techs and The City is an inclusive space for people from all backgrounds within tech in Manchester to come together and share ideas, knowledge, best practice and discuss topics facing the industry. We will strive to organise one Meet-Up every other month with speakers and lightning talks and there will also be round table discussions, dinner debates, and regular social gatherings.

While we will have technology focused talks/events, the gap that we are looking to fill is looking at issues in tech facing members of the LGBTQ+, BAME, Working Parents, and general issues around Diversity and Inclusion. We will also be looking at holding Meet-Ups that focus on Mental Health within Tech and providing resources and somewhere to talk.

Techs and The City hopes to be a safe space for anyone within technology in Manchester to come to for advice on things like work, home, technology, even somewhere to live in the city.

Everyone is welcome.

Techs and the City Meet-Up page is sponsored by Godel Technologies Europe, we are proud to be supported by this fantastic company on our Mental Health in Tech events. Thank you for your sponsorship.

Recruiters/Vendors/Suppliers are an important part of the tech ecosystem in Manchester, and we respect that you have a job to do and deserve to be involved in these events as well. All we ask is that you respectfully appreciate this is not a networking, business focused Meet-Up, it's a community event for people to share experiences and make friends. Gratuitously tapping people up for jobs/business will not be tolerated.

Queer As Tech

ThoughtWorks

We're planning a new event to coincide with the Manchester Pride Weekend!! Speakers Arif Ali I work at BrightBox in Tech Recruitment, predominantly Development. I have been a member of the tech community for just over 4 years now, but an avid Nando’s lover since I was a kid. I am openly gay, which, in the recruitment industry, an industry known for being full of testosterone and masculinity, I have often found myself a unicorn amongst horses. I write content and speeches for over a decade now, as well as offering insight to various political figures by way of consultancy on matters that are LGBT (as well a others). My insight will be around the quips, the perks, the downsides to being gay in a straight industry. How I have had to have a skin 3 times as tough as most other recruiters, and I have come to eventually be comfortable in my own skin/place of work. Jessica Winters I'm a freelance developer who's currently tutoring at RecodeUK in Bolton, helping under privileged people to get into the tech industry. We would like to thank the event sponsors - Oscar Tech & Reason Digital And also, thanks to our event hosts ThoughtWorks This event is inclusive and welcomes everyone. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈💜💙💚💛🧡❤️
