What we're about

The Wellington Outdoor Exercise Group is the online place to get yourself offline, and into nature. This group is for beginner- and intermediate-level runners, walkers, and trampers; basically any cardio activity that gets the blood pumping, the body moving, and the heart racing. Joining our group is free. All you need to do is bring yourself and a sturdy pair of running shoes! :)

Our aim is to provide a set of regular events that will allow our members to build up good fitness habits while also having fun. Events will be social, friendly, kind, and empathetic towards our members' individual needs, with a focus on improvement in the areas of stamina, speed, flexibility, and strength. WOE is an excellent place for non-runners and those new to tramping to get started. We will host weekly running MeetUps in order to build everyone's confidence and encourage positive mental well-being, while sprinkling nature walks and other challenging activities throughout as fun one-offs.

***Please note:

When you join as a member of WOE you understand, acknowledge, and accept that while events may be organized on a group basis, the attendees of any particular event must be self-sufficient and take the same precautions that they would deem necessary if doing the activity by themselves. Whilst every possible assistance will be offered, the organizers, event hosts, and other members of WOE do not represent themselves as experts in the field of outdoor fitness and therefore cannot be held responsible for any accidents, injuries, natural disasters, or losses sustained, either leading up to, during, or after an event.

The nature of the activities that WOE involves itself in and the environments we explore inherently present risks and dangers. We always want members to return from our hosted activities safe and well, however we have no way of absolutely guaranteeing this and therefore it is incumbent upon each member to accept the risks fully for each event they attend.

When you RSVP for an activity, please keep in mind the difficulty level and your own fitness/experience. Carry out additional research and assessments of the proposed activity if you deem it necessary before attending. Under no circumstances will you be obligated to attend a particular event that you haven't RSVP'd to. In fact, the organizers and event hosts of WOE reserve the right to refuse entry to any member or their guests who do not possess the required fitness level, equipment, and/or behavior/attitude for a specific event. Our events are not suitable for children unless stated otherwise, nor do we allow pets of any kind.

Under New Zealand law WOE is what's known as a 'volunteer association'. Please recognize that we therefore have no legal obligation to provide hazard warnings for our events or documentation relating to health & safety. If any of the preceding are provided by hosts or organizers, it does not mean that such warnings or documentation are complete, all-encompassing, or without error. We do not pretend to match any kind of professional or industry standard; WOE is volunteer- and amateur-run. If you do not accept these rules and WOE's general way of doing things, do not join. If you have already joined and at any point do not accept these rules, you must immediately leave the group or you will face removal by the group organizers. Thank you for reading and understanding.***
