What we’re about
This Meetup group is run by the Veg Society of DC (VSDC).
The Veg Society of DC hosts the events and pays the Meetup fee. You do not have to be a member of VSDC to participate in our events, but we encourage you to join. All of our events are vegan and we have a lot of fun! Membership enables you to enjoy members-only benefits like receiving discounts from our GreenRewards participating partners.
VSDC is a completely volunteer-run organization, with no paid staff. and is governed by an elected volunteer Board of Directors.
Founded in 1927, the Veg Society of the District of Columbia (VSDC) is the nation’s oldest continuously operating 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization promoting an all-plant diet and vegan lifestyle through education, community-building, and social activities throughout the DC metro area.
VSDC believes in treating all people, animals, and the planet with respect and kindness. We are committed to creating a more compassionate and caring world.
We do this by creating a community of like-minded people who are on the path to an all-plant diet and vegan lifestyle. Whoever you are, and wherever you are on this path, we offer resources and fellowship to support you. We make your journey easier, more enjoyable and meaningful.
VSDC. Creating communities for your health, the animals, and the planet.

See all- Bike Ride, Columbia, MD: Great Sage to Brewing Good and BackGreat Sage Restaurant, Clarksville, MD
Please join us for a fun ride between two popular vegan destinations in the Columbia MD area, Great Sage vegan restaurant and Brewing Good vegan coffee shop with baked goods, including doughnuts. We will be riding on a mix of wooded trails, and neighborhood and back roads. There are some hills, making this more of an intermediate than a beginner ride.
We will be starting at Great Sage at 8:30am and ride, mostly down hill, to Brewing Good where we will stop for coffee and baked goods including doughnuts. We will return to Great Sage on a different route, so the ride will be a loop and not just back and forth on the same route.
At Great Sage we can relax with Brunch or the standard full menu.

For babies under 2 years old and their caregivers
📍 Brookside Gardens, Silver Spring, MD
📅 Saturday, August 23
⏰10:00am
Meeting point: Big Red Chair behind the Visitor CenterOur first Lil Sprouts gathering was such a joy — thank you to everyone who came to help us plant the seeds of our vegan village! Now it’s time for round two: a baby picnic in the park. 🧺
This meetup is all about slowing down, spreading out a blanket, and enjoying some snacks while the little ones play and explore. (Pro tip: teething crackers = minimal mess + maximum baby happiness 😉).
Whether you’re fully vegan, just curious, or somewhere in between, this is a space to:
👶 Connect with other parents and caregivers of plant-based littles
💬 Share ideas, tips, and laughs about raising healthy, compassionate kids
🌿 Build friendships and community for both babies and grown-ups✨ Bring a blanket, your LO’s favorite vegan snacks, and your warm, open heart. We’ll find a shady spot at Brookside Gardens to gather, connect, and picnic together.
We can’t wait to see our Lil Sprouts again — and welcome new friends too!

- VSDC Movie Watch Party, Discussion, and Vegan FoodFairfax, Fairfax, VA$10.00
Join the Veg Society of DC (VSDC) for the pro-animal/vegan-themed Movie Watch Party on Saturday, August 23, in Fairfax VA. Socializing with vegan food beforehand and discussion about the movie afterwards is planned.
This month's movie is Flow, the 2025 Oscar winner for Best Animated Feature and nominee for Best International Feature. With a Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 98, Flow follows a courageous cat after his home is devastated by a great flood. Teaming up with a capybara, a lemur, a bird, and a dog to navigate a boat in search of dry land, they must rely on trust, courage, and wits to survive the perils of a newly aquatic planet. The movie is 1 hour and 25 minutes long.
The VSDC member hosts’ home in Fairfax has a small home theater that can accommodate around 20 people. This regular event is a fun way to learn, discuss, and meet vegans and vegan-curious people (Thanks to Mindy Kursban and David Kwiatkowski for hosting!).
FEE: The $10 fee will cover the hosts' expenses for the event, including food, beverages, and other associated costs. If there are any proceeds beyond these costs, which we don't expect, they will go towards VSDC's work to fulfill its mission. In order to ensure the success of the evening and limit late cancellations, the fee is refundable until 5 days before the event.
BECAUSE THERE IS A FEE FOR THIS EVENT, MEETUP DOES NOT ALLOW FOR A WAITLIST ONCE THE RSVPs ARE FULL. IF IT IS FULL, IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU CHECK MEETUP OCCASIONALLY TO SEE IF ANYONE HAS CHANGED THEIR RSVP.
FOOD: Pizza, salad, fruit, and dessert. Everyone is also welcome to bring vegan food or beverages to share.
WHO: All VSDC and Meetup members are invited. Bringing a non-vegan friend is encouraged.
WHEN: Saturday, Aug 23rd starting at 6:30 pm. We will begin watching the film around 7.
WHERE: The home is in Fairfax VA 22033, near Inova Fair Oaks Hospital. It is 8 miles from the closest metro at either Vienna or Reston (Uber or Lyft would be necessary). For safety and security reasons, the exact location will be emailed privately via Meetup about 2 days in advance to those who have rsvp'd Yes. Please make sure your email is current in Meetup, your Meetup settings allow organizer messages, and check your spam if you don't receive the message.
PARKING: There is plenty of free parking within a 3-minute walk of the home.
*You must register via this page to attend the event.* A Pay Pal account is required to pay the $10. Because there is a cost for the event, Meetup doesn't have a waitlist for the movie. If it is full and you are interested in attending, please contact the host.
