What we're about

The Washington DC Area Vegan Meetup Group

Engage with other vegans (and those aspiring) in the DC metropolitan area. Share ideas/thoughts on being or going vegan including recipes, vegan products, activities, restaurants, related topics, its philosophy, or simply make friends who share your interests.

The group is sponsored by the Veg Society of DC (VSDC, http://www.vsdc.org ), who provides the enabling structure and pays the regular Meetup fee so that individual members of the group do not have to pay anything. A number of the group's activities will be organized by VSDC (whose events are always planned vegan).

Activities will be community-building to support those already on the path to an all-plant vegan diet, as well as educational, to provide people with the information and insight to take the next step or become more involved. As part of VSDC's philosophy for positive encouragement and inclusiveness, everyone is welcome to attend, regardless of background and where they are on the path to a vegan diet and lifestyle.

All events will be vegan.

Virtual Game Night: Drawasaurus!

Online event

Join us for a game of Drawasaurus! Similar to the popular game Pictionary, Drawasaurus is a drawing & guessing game you can play on your phone, tablet or PC. Do your best to draw the word you are given while players try to guess it!

You'll need to be able to receive an email from VSDC with the Zoom meeting URL, so make sure you have enabled messaging in your Meetup settings (go to Meetup > Settings > Email Updates > Turn On).

We'll open up the game room 10 minutes early for folks who need a little extra time to get set up and then close the room promptly at 8:10 pm, so please be on time.

Don’t worry if you’ve never played Drawasaurus, or any other Pictionary-style game, before. All are welcome and we'll go over basic gameplay at the start of the event. If you want to practice beforehand, you can visit the website here: https://www.drawasaurus.org/.

Don't be a no show! If your plans change, update your RSVP so that another may attend.

VSDC Virtual Vegan Potluck Cooking Club

Online event

Are you passionate about cooking vegan food and want to share that passion with others? Are you looking to improve your vegan cooking skills? Or, have you always wanted to learn how to cook your own vegan food? VSDC’s Monthly Virtual Vegan Cooking Club is for you!

The Club will meet each month over Zoom to share a home-cooked dish we’ve prepared in advance.

*June's theme: Picnic foods!*

Come ready to talk about what you’ve made, divulge tips and tricks and/or seek advice and recommendations from fellow Club members. We’ll also discuss other vegan-food related topics such as beloved cookbook authors and food bloggers and your favorite kitchen gadgets.

VSDC’s Virtual Vegan Cooking Club is not a cooking class or a demonstration, but instead a relaxed and low-key platform for everyone to participate, regardless of cooking skill level.

To join, you'll need to be able to receive an email from VSDC with the Zoom meeting URL, so make sure you have enabled messaging in your Meetup settings (go to Meetup > Settings > Email Updates > Turn On, as well as Meetup > Settings > Privacy > who can contact you on Meetup > Members of my Groups or Anyone on Meetup).

And, let us know what you're planning to make in the comments below!

VSDC Book Club discusses "All Creatures Great and Small" (online)

Please join the Veg Society of DC Book Club discussion of All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot.

A newly qualified veterinarian arrives in a small Yorkshire village. First volume in a series (also a recent PBS series). Per the author’s son: “Ninety per cent of my father’s stories are, as he always maintained, based upon fact. . . . It is true that he deliberately manipulated events and dates to suit his stories but the theme of almost every one is based upon real-life incidents and personalities…”

To participate you must read at least half the book—and RSVP at least two days before the meeting.

The VSDC Book Club began meeting online in March 2020 (previously we met in vegetarian restaurants in DC or nearby Maryland or Virginia). People who RSVP yes will get the details to join the discussion (the weekend before the meeting). The details will not be posted on meetup.

We read fiction and nonfiction in alternating months, about any topic. For more information (including everything we have read over 29 years!) visit https://vsdc.org/Book-Club or contact Beth through meet up (https://www.meetup.com/vegan-28/message/?recipientId=1642817).

Don't be a no show! If your plans change, update your RSVP.
