What we're about

The Washington DC Area Vegan Meetup Group

Engage with other vegans (and those aspiring) in the DC metropolitan area. Share ideas/thoughts on being or going vegan including recipes, vegan products, activities, restaurants, related topics, its philosophy, or simply make friends who share your interests.

The group is sponsored by the Veg Society of DC (VSDC, http://www.vsdc.org ), who provides the enabling structure and pays the regular Meetup fee so that individual members of the group do not have to pay anything. A number of the group's activities will be organized by VSDC (whose events are always planned vegan).

Activities will be community-building to support those already on the path to an all-plant vegan diet, as well as educational, to provide people with the information and insight to take the next step or become more involved. As part of VSDC's philosophy for positive encouragement and inclusiveness, everyone is welcome to attend, regardless of background and where they are on the path to a vegan diet and lifestyle.

All events will be vegan.

Discuss "The Sun Also Rises" with the VSDC Book Club (ONLINE MEETING)

Please join the Veg Society of DC Book Club discussion of Ernest Hemingway's enduring novel, "The Sun Also Rises." First published in 1926, it follows American and British expatriates from the nightlife of 1920s Paris to the bullfighting rings of Spain. To participate you must read at least half the book—and RSVP at least two days before the meeting. This meeting takes place on Zoom. People who RSVP yes will get the log in information the weekend before the meeting. The details will not be posted online. Please join the meeting early if you have not used zoom before to be sure your video (optional) and audio are connected. We read fiction and nonfiction in alternating months, about any topic. For more information (including everything we have read over 28 years!) visit https://vsdc.org/Book-Club or contact Beth (http://www.meetup.com/vegan-28/message/?recipientId=1642817) through meet up. Don't be a no show! If your plans change, update your RSVP.

VSDC African American Networking Group Virtual Meetup

Let's hold a virtual meetup! Some suggestions are to participate from your deck, balcony, or somewhere else outside. You might order from E-Life, Nu Vegan, or another restaurant. What about trying out a new recipe and telling the group about it? We also might get more serious and discuss ways to help the African American community nationwide related to the coronavirus (COVID 19 Disease). ***Please note that our online Happy Hour meetings now require a password to prevent Zoombombing. Once you RSVP, you will receive the meeting link. So be sure to register, and keep an eye on your inbox for the message. You can register any time between now and 3:30 pm on May 30th.*** If you haven’t yet used Zoom, don’t worry, it’s easy. Just click the link that's provided in the event invitation, and you’ll enter the meeting. Please note that you don't need to have your own Zoom account to participate in a meeting that someone else has set up; just follow the prompts that come up, which will enable you to download and install the software so that you can participate. And if you use a phone or computer with a camera, we’ll be able to see your smiling face. But if you’d rather, you can just call in on a voice line. When you join the call, please look for your own little microphone icon; it's a good idea to mute yourself when you aren't talking, especially if there is a lot of background noise in your home. Go ahead and register, and be sure to watch for the link and password in your inbox on May 31st. If you do not receive them by then, please send a message to David Banks here on Meetup. ---------------------- VSDC (http://www.vsdc.org) is a clear and consistent voice for improving the lives of all beings through education on the benefits of a vegan diet & lifestyle. Sharing food is the bond that brings families together; so is it with our large and growing family. From simply “breaking bread” to experiencing delicious and nutritious vegan foods from around the world, we make your journey easier, enjoyable & meaningful. VSDC. Creating communities. For your health, the animals, and the planet.
