Discuss "The Mayor of Casterbridge" with the VSDC Book Club
Please join the Vegetarian Society of DC Book Club discussion of Thomas Hardy's "The Mayor of Casterbridge." A cruel joke at a country fair goes too far when a drunk laborer auctions his wife and child to the highest bidder. So begins this tale of a man's rise and fall amid the beauty and brutality of a rural English community. First published serially in 1886. To participate you must read at least half the book -- and RSVP at least two days before the meeting. This meeting takes place at the Takoma Park location of Soupergirl (https://thesoupergirl.com/whats-cooking/), a vegan soup and salad restaurant. The restaurant usually closes at 8pm but will let us stay until 9pm for our discussion. Please place food orders by 8pm. Soupergirl is across the street from the Takoma metro stop and street parking is available (meter payment may be required, check signs carefully). The VSDC Book Club reads fiction and nonfiction in alternating months, about any topic. For more information (including everything we have read over 26 years!) visit http://www.vsdc.org/Book-Club or contact Beth (http://www.meetup.com/vegan-28/message/?recipientId=1642817) through meet up. Don't be a no show! If your plans change, update your RSVP.

What we're about

The Washington DC Area Vegan Meetup Group

Engage with other vegans (and those aspiring) in the DC metropolitan area. Share ideas/thoughts on being or going vegan including recipes, vegan products, activities, restaurants, related topics, its philosophy, or simply make friends who share your interests.

The group is sponsored by the Veg Society of DC (VSDC, http://www.vsdc.org ), who provides the enabling structure and pays the regular Meetup fee so that individual members of the group do not have to pay anything. A number of the group's activities will be organized by VSDC (whose events are always planned vegan).

Activities will be community-building to support those already on the path to an all-plant vegan diet, as well as educational, to provide people with the information and insight to take the next step or become more involved. As part of VSDC's philosophy for positive encouragement and inclusiveness, everyone is welcome to attend, regardless of background and where they are on the path to a vegan diet and lifestyle.

All events will be vegan.
