What we’re about
This Meetup group is run by the Veg Society of DC (VSDC), 7/19/22.
The Veg Society of DC hosts the events and pays the Meetup fee. You do not have to be a member of VSDC to participate in our events, but we encourage you to join. All of our events are vegan and we have a lot of fun! Membership enables you to enjoy members-only benefits like receiving discounts from our GreenRewards participating partners.
VSDC is a completely volunteer-run organization, with no paid staff. and is governed by an elected volunteer Board of Directors.
Founded in 1927, the Veg Society of the District of Columbia (VSDC) is the nation’s oldest continuously operating 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization promoting an all-plant diet and vegan lifestyle through education, community-building, and social activities throughout the DC metro area.
VSDC believes in treating all people, animals, and the planet with respect and kindness. We are committed to creating a more compassionate and caring world.
We do this by creating a community of like-minded people who are on the path to an all-plant diet and vegan lifestyle. Whoever you are, and wherever you are on this path, we offer resources and fellowship to support you. We make your journey easier, more enjoyable and meaningful.
VSDC. Creating communities for your health, the animals, and the planet.

We will gather to the right of the small gift shop structure. Look for Saurabh who will be wearing a Green VSDC t-shirt. Then we will decide what to do and/or where to hang out.The Poplar Spring Annual Open House and Fundraiser is free and set for Sunday, October 1, 2023 – 1 to 4 pm. After a four year hiatus due to the pandemic, they are planning this event at the sanctuary once again. Join VSDC and many hundreds of people as the Open House will feature a live band, catered food and drinks, balloons and face painting, and the opportunity to stroll around and visit the rescued animals. There will not be a silent auction this year. Again, No admission fee, but donations (of any amount) to Poplar Spring are very much appreciated.
Bring a chair, a water bottle, and anything else you need for this outdoor event.

Ample parking is available in the shopping center lot. There is no Metro station that is close by. Rides may be available from attendees with cars so please communicate needs/availability in the comments below and chat on this event page.
Note: please be careful and safe in providing any personal contact information in any public forum, like meetup.com.Please note that there is outdoor dining at this venue but those tables are small so we will be indoors.
In an effort to reduce no shows for space-limited events, we are now tracking those who fail to show up and do not change their RSVP beforehand. After three strikes you're out - meaning that you will not be able to attend future space-limited VSDC events. It is unfair to those on the waitlist and to the restaurant when there are no-shows.
