Buttermilk Sundays

988 Bedford Rd

Buttermilk Hill Area is the section of Rockefeller State Park that is the field and forest ridge seen from the Stone Barns. The trail head is on Route 117. Buttermilk is bordered by Route 9A and Route 448. Driving west from the Taconic or 9A, the parking lot is on your left. Driving east on Route 117, the parking lot is on your right. This is a fast to moderat hike 6 to 7 miles. Mostly carriage trails except for the beginning which is a narrow path. There are several hills. Hike pace, distance, and or route will be altered to accommodate weather related hiking conditions. Times and distances are estimates that the hike leader is shooting for, but in no way guaranteed. Liability Waiver: This is a fun and interesting group of people who enjoy hiking. It is not organized by a professional hiker. Hiking or outdoor activities have inherent risks. Your participation in our hikes or other events could be dangerous and can result in serious injury, medical emergency, even death. Rockefeller State Park Preserve

We will do a 1.5 - 2 HR hike at a moderate to fast pace. Terrain: Easy to moderate, mainly rolling hills. Equipment: You should bring a change of footwear for your ride home Distance: Approximately 4-5 miles Pace: Moderate to Brisk. Although this is a beginner hike, and nobody gets left behind, we tend to walk at a brisk pace. Please assess your ability to keep this pace before signing up. Meeting location: We will meet at the the MAIN Parking lot for the Rockefeller State Park Preserve. The Parking lot is located on the south side of Route 117 approximately halfway between Route 9A to the East and Route 9 to the West. There are gates and stone walls at the entrance, a large horse-trailer parking lot, a little toll booth, a visitors center and a bathroom building. We will meet at the restroom building in the parking lot. Rockefeller Preserve Sleepy Hollow Road North Area

Directions Rockefeller Park Main Parking lot off R 117 between R 9 in the west and R 9A in the east. Description fast pace hike. Will do 2 hours and 6 miles. Terrain: Easy to moderate, mainly rolling hills. We tend to walk at a brisk pace and hardly stop. Pets: Friendly, well behaved dogs are welcome. The park requires dogs to be leashed at all times. Understand that the virus lives on the coat of a dog, thus keep your dog from jumping on hikers. It is possible that we will encounter one or more horses with riders or carriages. They sometimes worry about dogs.
