We will be running the Class 2 rapids of the Uncompahgre River through Montrose, CO. None of the rapids are Class 3, but there will be some rocks that you will want to avoid. This river is not deep, but it is fast! In the middle of this run we will go through the Montrose Water Park with some big drops which are a lot of fun. They are not difficult but they may take your breath away! Here is a video of some of us going through the Water Park from the last trip we took: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQ2S3XVIbzI). Some of you may recognize Shirley in the yellow kayak. I am in the purple and blue one. The launch site is just behind the Target store off of US50 in Montrose and, depending on water conditions, the take out will be one of 4 options: off Air Parkway across US50 from the airport, near a pond off of Grand Ave., a Park at the CO90 bridge, or at the end of 9th St. just past the roundabout. If you have Google Earth, you will be able to find aerial photos of these locations. Afterwards, some of you adventurous types may want to arrange for a 2-hour water surfing lesson taught by an instructor from Montrose Kayak and Surf [masked]). They supply the water surf boards and the fee is $80 for one and $30 for each additional person up to a total of 4. If you want to continue, it will cost an additional $10 per hour total. As for me, I would prefer to meet and relax at one of the Montrose restaurants or micro-brewerys for lunch!
