Details

WSA will hold its 9th annual Outdoor Thanksgiving Feast & Weekend of Fun based in Utah's Sand Island BLM campground, 4 miles west of Bluff, UT.

You can plan to tent camp, bring a trailer or RV or stay in a motel in nearby Bluff or Blanding, UT.

The BLM campground does allow DOGS. Please bring a leash and pick-up bags.

Mark your calendar to join us Wednesday November 27 or on the 28th, the actual turkey day. Then plan to stay as many more days of the holiday weekend as you want (Wednesday afternoon Nov 27 - Sunday December 1).

The general plan is to arrive Wednesday or early Thursday. Those who arrive early will do a Thursday morning hike.

Thanksgiving dinner with turkey, dressing, cranberries, mashed potatoes, pies . . . and what-all those coming to the dinner opt to bring. We've done this many years and always come up with a delicious and diverse dinner. CLICK ON THIS LINK TO ACCESS THE GOOGLE SHEETS FOOD LIST.

Plan to bring all (at least much of) the food you will want for the dinner and the weekend. Depending on who/ how large the group is, we may do some meal sharing throughout the weekend; at least with turkey-day leftovers. The town of Bluff is a few miles away if you need a grocery store.

Camping spaces can be reserved (we will look more into that detail) and tents as well as RV's, trailers all work. There are motel options in Bluff or a little farther away in Blanding. Make your motel reservation early.

We usually have group campfires evening and morning so bring lots of firewood, campfire stories, makings for s'mores, fireside beverages and more.

With all the hiking, driving tour options and canyon/ arch/ slickrock exploration there will be activities that can satisfy everyone's quest for beauty, fun and adventure.

Weather average temperatures for November are 56* and 26* -- nice sleeping, hiking and campfire temperatures. Since we will be at a drive-to campground you can bring as much warm bedding as you like; and lots of firewood.

Drive times to Bluff from (according to Google Maps):

  • Grand Junction- 4 hours
  • Salt Lake City- 5 1/2 hours
  • Las Vegas- 7 1/2 hours
  • Denver- 7 hours
  • Santa Fe- 5 hours
  • Sacramento-15 hours
