Add a little pep to your schlep! Make a fabulous tote bag while exploring beginner sewing skills in this hands-on workshop! Our knowledgeable instructors will guide you through the whole process from cutting fabric, to using a sewing machine, to basic construction, and more.

This class is great for beginners or those who want to continue expanding their sewing project repertoire. In this class, we will cover:

• Practice using a sewing machine
• Quick and safe cutting with a rotary cutter
• Basic construction
• How to box corners
• How to put in a lining

All the fabric and supplies are provided. We will be using the Ace Janome sewing machines, so no need to bring your own

Bandsaws for cutting curves and Drill Presses for precision holes! This workshop goes over the core principles of using these tools in the Ace Workshop including certification. This class is great for beginners and experienced folks alike. Bonus: Learn how to use the Panel Saw to break down plywood sheets quickly and accurately.

Learn the basics of safe (wood) lathe operation in this certification workshop. You’ll learn how to secure wood and operate a lathe. You’ll learn about different lathe tools and how to work with lathe tools to shape wood. You’ll have an extended chance to use the lathe yourself under supervision.

Agenda:

• Safe lathe operation
• Setting up and adjusting the lathe for your project
• Swapping out and adjusting chucks
• Securing pieces of wood for turning
• Working with a variety of tools to create different effects
• Skew Chisels
• Scrapers
• Parting Tools
• Gouges
• Sanding objects on the Lathe

What to bring: A notebook or well-charged phone for taking notes.
What to wear: Closed-toe shoes, short sleeves, and work clothes. Long hair must be tied back.
Safety Gear: Eye protection, ear protection, and all the hand sanitizer will be provided. You can also bring your own.
This class requires a minimum of 3 students per session. If the class is canceled we can offer a refund but otherwise do not refund.

Level up your sewing skills with this class on using a Serger (aka Overlock) sewing machine. This class covers all the basics of using this fun but complex sewing machine. Serging is a great way to sew garments especially stretch fabrics and have great finish.

Timing: 3 Hours
Location: Coworking/Textiles suite 206
Prerequisites: Sewing 101, or basic sewing machine experience
Certification: Certification on the Ace Juki Sergers
Age: 18+

Agenda:

• Overview of basic functions
• Reading the manual
• Hands on practice changing the needle, threading for 3-Thread Overlock, adjusting the tension for sewing a variety of fabric types
• Overview of basic troubleshooting, working with a differential feed, and tensioning

What to Bring: A well charged phone or notebook for taking notes
What to wear: The glasses or contact lenses you use for reading (optional)
