Norm Zeck: Compression and JPEG

JPEG ("jay-peg") is the most common format for images on the internet. It is a "lossy" compression format particularly suited for digital photography because it keeps the information the human eye is most sensitive to and drops the rest. 10x compression ratios can be achieved with little noticeable difference in image quality.

Norm is retired from Xerox PARC NY where he worked on image compression. He may bring examples of compression hardware he developed.
