The Hike:
This rewarding circular walk explores some of the most picturesque hidden corners of East Hertfordshire. Starting from Bayford Station, we quickly leave the tracks behind and venture into quiet woodland, field paths and ancient byways, passing through a tapestry of rolling countryside, shady copses and charming villages.
Our first leg takes us through Bayford Wood and past the historic Bayford Hall, with sweeping views over the valley before we meander westward to the tranquil village of Essendon. Here, you’ll get a sense of Hertfordshire’s rural heritage, with timber-framed houses and a beautiful church nestled among quiet lanes. The route then continues through the undulating countryside of Bedwell Park, weaving past old farms and peaceful tracks.
Highlights:
- Panoramic views across the Hertfordshire countryside
- Pretty villages and historic estates including Essendon and Bayford
- Varied terrain including woodland, field paths, and country lanes
