What is Adventuring?
For a full description, visit us at AdventuringLGBTQ.com
Adventuring is an outdoors club for the LGBTQ+ community in the Washington DC Metro area. We're all about enjoying the outdoors and being physically active in a social setting.
Don't fret about your current fitness level or prior outdoors experience - we welcome everyone. We also coordinate carpools to help you get there economically.
Our trip fee is $5, plus any mileage reimbursement to drivers (if you participate in a carpool). There is no membership fee.
Contact us with any questions at AdventuringLGBTQ@gmail.com. Even better - come to our Spring Social, Fall Social, Summer Picnic, or Winter Party to get to know us better.

Woodley Park/Embassy Row Urban Walk
Woodley Park-Zoo Metro Station, Washington, DC, USJoin us on a scenic and historic 4 mile moderate walk through one of Woodley Park's most scenic neighborhoods and adjacent Embassy Row.
Our sojourn starts at the top of the escalators of the Woodley Park-Zoo-Adams Morgan Metro Station at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday evening October 8.
The first half of our walk takes us up a steep hill with substantial elevation along Calvert Street and Woodland Drive, where we can admire the lavish homes. Once at the top of the hill, we will careen down to Whole Foods for a bathroom break.
After our brief respite we will pass the Naval Observatory and turn onto Massachusetts Avenue and Embassy Row. At S street, we will turn left and pass the home of former president Woodrow Wilson and the former site of the Textile Museum, now used by Jeff Bezos as a party house. At Decatur Place we will descend DC's renowned and picturesque Spanish Steps and potentially pause for a group photo. ( Please note that the Steps do not have a handrail.) Following the Steps we will make our way to Dupont Circle, where we will conclude the formal portion of our stroll by 7 p.m. and if desired choose among any number of establishments for refreshments.
All are welcome. Please bring beverages, snacks, comfortable walking shoes and the $5 Adventuring trip fee (cash or Venmo)

Trip Details
We'll spend the week in Moab, UT-- with six days of hiking in Arches, Canyonlands, and the surrounding "canyon country". We'll spend a day up in the nearby La Sal Mountains. Optional activities if anyone wants a break from hiking include mountain biking, riding ATV’s, or float trips on the Colorado River.
The landscape here is multi-colored, multi-layered sandstone, sculpted by wind and water into astonishing forms-- mesas and buttes, towers and fins, arches and domes. We'll hike through scenic canyons and look out on vast vistas.
The hiking will not involve major elevation change but will require some scrambling over sandstone domes, ledges, and cracks. We’ll have a variety of short, medium and long hikes, mostly in the sun, but the temperatures at this time of year should be pleasant.
Vegetation is sparse, but our timing should be good to see the bright yellow of the cottonwoods in the canyon bottoms and the aspen up in the mountains. This area was inhabited until the 1200's by the Pre-Puebloan people (formerly known as the "Anasazi"); we'll see some of their petroglyph panels and ruins.
We’ll all stay in a big house together, sharing the cooking and kitchen duty, and riding to our hikes each day in the group cars. Couples will have their own rooms. Singles will have their own beds, probably in a shared bunk room.
Participants will share equally in the cost of the lodging, the rental cars and gas, the shared groceries and beverages, and any other group costs. Estimated at $1,200-1,600 each, all-in, for the week, plus participants will be responsible for their own travel costs to Moab, UT and back.
Limited to 7-10 participants (depends on how many couples sign up).

Relaxed Bike Ride 4
Clarendon Metro Station, 3100 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA 22201, USA, Arlington, VA, USIn my continuing effort to revive interest in bicycling in Adventuring I offer a fourth relaxed bike ride of 23 miles beginning and ending at the Clarendon Metro station (Orange and Silver Lines) in Arlington. Click here to see a map of the route and the elevation profile. Don't be intimidated by the few hills on the route. I promise to take them slowly and wait for riders at the top if necessary. By "relaxed" I mean our pace will be in the range of 10-12 MPH. Most novice bike riders should feel comfortable with that pace. Of course experienced riders are welcome, too. If there is any interest we can have lunch at a local eatery after the ride.
We are fortunate to have a good network of bicycle paths, lanes, and bicycle-friendly streets in the DC area. We will make good use of them as we cycle through Arlington and Alexandria. I intend for our group to stay together throughout the ride so you won't need to bother with a cue sheet or navigation device or worry about being "dropped." We will depart promptly at 11:00 AM. Wear a helmet, bring a water bottle, and be prepared to pay Adventuring's usual $5 trip fee.
