What is Adventuring?
*For a full description, visit us at AdventuringLGBTQ.com*
Adventuring is an outdoors club for the LGBTQ+ community in the Washington DC Metro area. We're all about enjoying the outdoors and being physically active in a social setting.
Don't fret about your current fitness level or prior outdoors experience - we welcome everyone. We also coordinate carpools to help you get there economically.
Our trip fee is $5, plus any mileage reimbursement to drivers (if you participate in a carpool). There is no membership fee.
Contact us with any questions at AdventuringLGBTQ@gmail.com. Even better - come to our Spring Social, Fall Social, Summer Picnic, or Winter Party to get to know us better.

Not open - Signal Knob Circuit HikeEast Falls Church Metro, Kiss & Ride, Falls Church, VA
The weather for this weekend looks perfect for hiking, and here’s a Massanutten Mountain option to complement the Rock Creek hike already planned for in town.
This is a very pleasant and moderately strenuous circuit hike of a little over 10 miles and 2000 feet of elevation gain. About an hour and a half drive nearly due west of D.C., Signal Knob served as a lookout and signalling outpost during the Civil War. For us, it will be the perfect spot to stop for lunch and enjoy the view.
We will meet at 8:30 a.m. to form our carpool in the East Falls Church Metro Kiss & Ride lot. We’ll make a pit stop at the Sheetz in Haymarket where you can pick up lunch or a snack. On our return trip, we'll make an optional stop for dinner or drinks at the Apple House. We should make it back to East Falls Church well before dark, with or without the optional stop.
In addition to your hiking gear and plenty of water, please bring $5 for the Adventuring Trip Fee and a $10 carpool fee for your driver. Note that as of this Sunday, Metrorail service will begin at 6am on Saturdays and Sundays.

- Van Ness to Tenleytown Hike via Rock Creek & Glover Archbold ParksVan Ness Metro (East Side), Washington, DC, DC
Starting from the east side of the Van Ness Metro Station next Sunday the 22nd at noon, we’ll first take the Soapstone Valley trail into Rock Creek Park and head south on the Western Ridge Trail. There will be strenuous & moderate options to Dumbarton Oaks.
We’ll stop at the Trader Joes on Wisconsin Ave for a bathroom break. We'll probably lunch near here.
We will next walk westbound on the Whitehaven Trail, which can be surprisingly rugged. This will guide us to the Glover Archbold Park Trail, which we'll follow northbound to its end near Van Ness Street. Our last leg will take us to the Tenleytown Metro Station, which we should reach around 4 p.m. Beers at Guapo's restaurant on Wisconsin Avenue will be an option for interested thirsty Adventurers.
This moderately difficult hike will be about 7 1/2 miles long, with very moderate elevation changes along the way. Bring plenty of beverages, lunch, bug spray, sunscreen, sturdy boots, and the $5 Adventuring trip fee. The trip leader will pay that fee for financially challenged Adventurers. For those driving, there will be open parking, since there are no zone/time restrictions on Sundays; drivers should park between the Tenleytown & Van Ness Metros.
