Agile software Teams loose flow of delivery. They have too little time to solve the real business problems. This implies ineffective software delivery and ineffective software systems.
We see an increase in burn downs, negative stress, etc. which was most certainty not what was intended when introducing the Agile Manifesto.

What on earth does all this have to with how we define and organize our agile teams?

One goal is software that fits in our heads and team topologies that fit our teams, businesses and products. The advice is now to take a SOCIO-TECHNICAL approach to building software systems.
Manuel Pais, co-author of the highly-acclaimed book on Team Topologies (IT Revolution, 2019) has kindly accepted AgilityLab's invitation to shed some more light on this.
A war has started on "monolith vs microservices" and discussions rise around topics such as what is the optimal size of software. Is it really true that "Software that is 'too big for our heads' works against organizational agility"?
It is claimed that agile software teams are hit by an increase in the so-called 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗖𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗮𝗱, i.e. the total amount of mental effort being used in the working memory (ref. psychologist John Sweller, 1998).
We wish to decrease the load spent on the irrelevant stuff of how to do things and instead increase the time spent on focusing on the business focus on the problem we're there to solve.
According to the authors of the book Team Topologies (𝗧𝗧), Manuel Pais and Matthew Skelton, "we should limit the size of software products/services to the cognitive load the team can handle".

Mikkel and Luxshan's mission is to expose what happens when agile meets reality, so we can all learn from it. Having collectively worked with agile teams for more than 20 years , the duo's real-life frustrations with agile transformations lead them to create agile comic strips, under the name Comic Agilé.
The huge popularity of Comic Agilé lead to the two partners-in-crime to publish a book with their strips and advice for how to manage the anti-patterns, paradoxes and misunderstandings that inevitable occur when everyone wants to be "agile", but nobody wants to make the needed changes.
With almost 50,000 agile-professional followers on LinkedIn and more than 5,000 copies of their first book sold globally (the second book is published in November 2022), Mikkel and Luxshan are now taking their 'edutainment' concept to the next level with talks, provoking enterprises, conferences and communities to reflect on their own agile practices in the spirit of continuous improvement.
