MOSHASSUCK RIVER PRESERVE HIKE AND CONCERT AT CHASE FARM – SATURDAY, AUG 30

Join us on a hike on the cool wooded trails in the Moshassuck River Preserve in Lincoln. These trails are hard packed with some roots and rocks. There are a few short inclines. Because it’s summer we’ll be going at a very easy pace. We will do the yellow and blue trails and it will take 1.5 hours. The weather should be 73 degrees. Sturdy hiking footwear with good tread recommended as well as hydration and snack.

HIKE LOCATION: Fairlawn Golf Club, 3 Sherman Ave, Lincoln, RI 02865 (shared parking with trail).

MEET TIME: 12:30pm so we end around 3:15 giving us time to drive over to Chase Farm.

FREE CONCERT: 4 pm at Chase Farm, Breakheart Hill Road (route 123), Lincoln, RI

The band is Those Guys and they are a good band. Throw a chair in your trunk and bring money for food trucks, or bring what you like.

IF YOU WANT TO JOIN US FOR THE CONCERT BUT DON’T WANT TO HIKE, BE AT THE TRAIL HEAD IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE FAIRLAWN GOLF CLUB BEFORE 3:15 SO WE KNOW YOU’RE THERE.

CONSERVATION CORNER: The Aust Family Preserve is owned by The Nature Conservancy. It was opened several years before Moshassuck River Preserve. The Aust Family Preserve has very limited parking and is in a very nice neighborhood. Due to neighbor’s complaints about the parking situation, The Aust Family Preserve was nearly closed. The Nature Conservancy owned the Moshassuck property, but it abuts the Fairlawn Golf Club and the Lincoln YMCA and was not opened for hiking. Rather than close the Aust Family Preserve, it was decided to design trails and open the Moshassuck River Preserve to alleviate the parking at the Aust Family Preserve. Both properties are only a few miles apart. We have a lot to be thankful for since both are great places to hike.
