What we’re about
Our American MahJong players meet weekly. Games are played in backyard or home in downtown Palo Alto on Tuesday mornings from 10-1.
We welcome experienced American MahJong players from all over the bay area. There are enough players for you to count on regular play. Every week 4 -12 players RSVP and we put up enough tables for everyone. Depending on headcount, we rotate in and out, play Siamese or three-person. Games follow regulations for National American MahJongg.
If you are new to MahJong or have not played American MahJong, we can give you an overview of the game and let you watch. Every play in the game requires thought and immediate reevaluation from all players. So, to prevent interfering with the flow of the game, we can occasionally offer an overview from 9:00 - 10:00AM on Tuesday mornings. After your overview session you will have the option to observe actual game play. Please contact us at least 48 hours in advance to see if someone is available to give you the overview.
Please understand that while we can offer an overview to MahJong, we don't teach the game. To learn the game, you can read, watch videos, play online, or get private instruction. Our players recommend the book "The Beginners Guide to American MahJongg: How to Play the Game and Win" by Elaine Sandberg. Real MahJong is an excellent internet app. In addition, for fastest learning, take classes. You can contact Coach Christine at https://mahjonggclass.wixsite.com/mahjongg.
