Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site commemorates the November 29, 1864, attack on a village of about 700 Southern Cheyenne and Arapaho people along Sand Creek. It's a solemn location.
Plan is to meet near the visitors center to discuss Contested Plains. The book was the first recommendation when I stopped into the visitors center, and plan's to return to the site with a deeper understanding.
Please come having read the book, and be prepared to share your thoughts, ideas, perspectives, research. You'll also want a lawn chair, we'll want to sit off away from the ranger activities.
After the discussion please explore the site at your own pace. I'm planning to walk the Bluff Trail, but due to the solemn nature of the site, I'm planning to do it quietly (not a discussion hike).
I prefer to explore without pets or children.
