Jeffco Parks opens the Baehr Observatory once a month to allow us to look through the telescope and experience the site.

This is an informal event. If anyone wants to Meet Up and say Hi, just post in the comments. I'm planning to get there early to hike around the park, but will be heading up the trail to the observatory from the parking lot around 8:45pm.

The full moon is on July 10th, so we'll be a little more than half. Weather forecast shows early rain but clearing by the time of the open house.

I've brought a headlamp with me the few times I've gone up there, but there was enough moon light to be able to move around without it. Coming back down the trail however goes into some shady spots where a light will be more useful.

The Healey House Museum is giving a presentation about prostitution in early Colorado history.

If anyone wants to explore museums or other things in Leadville before the presentation, please share your thoughts in the discussion. I'm planning to arrive around noon to explore.

Colorado's largest petrified forest is located at Cherokee Ranch. A large number of lithic artifacts were made by paleo people from the petrified wood. This is an opportunity to hike through the site.

Shavano Valley Rock Art Site contains twenty-six panels of aboriginal rock art and several areas with unexcavated artifacts. The Ute Indian Museum is offering tours into a portion of the site.

Registration with the museum is required. We're going on the 1pm tour. It's a quick phone call following the instructions in the above link, they'll get your credit card over the phone and text/ email you a receipt.

The site is located a few miles from the museum. We'll meet at the museum by 12:30 (allow yourself time to also explore the museum), before driving out to the site in our own vehicles, following the tour guide.
