Time for our annual trip to Bainbridge Museum of Art!

Details
It's time for our annual trip across the pond to take the WA State Ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge Island! The wonderful Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (BIMA) has an excellent exhibit focusing on James W. Washington Jr. (https://www.biartmuseum.org/exhibitions/james-w-washington-jr-retrospective/) From the website: Many Hats, One Spirit is a retrospective exhibition that highlights the life and work of Dr. James W. Washington, Jr. (1908 – 2000). The title references “many hats,” paying homage to this multifaceted man who was a visual artist, poet, gardener, community builder, civil rights activist, and spiritual person. The second exciting exhibit is Michael Stasinos, with an exhibit titled "Capturing the Ineffable". Again, from the website: Michael Stasinos (Seattle) seems to capture quick moments in time. But Stasinos’ plein air (“open air” or “outdoors”) painting process can take weeks, months, or even years to complete one scene. He paints directly on location, as opposed to using photographs for reference. Natural light, weather, colors, and surrounding activities change in the moment, by the minute—or certainly by the following week. (https://www.biartmuseum.org/exhibitions/michael-stasinos-capturing-the-ineffable/) The cost for the ferry ride is $10.25 for adults and $5.10 for Seniors and you can also use your Orca card. You pay for the ferry at the ticket terminal at 801 Alaskan Way on the Seattle side and pay nothing to return! Warning that parking in downtown Seattle near the ferry terminal can be daunting. I take light rail and get off at the Pioneer Square Station and prepare to walk numerous blocks. I have also shared an Uber with a friend and it was very convenient as the Uber driver dropped us off at the bottom of the staircase to the terminal and then picked us up at the same spot - super easy! The great BIMA museum is free, so that is nice. After spending about 1.5 hours at the museum, we will walk 4 blocks to Ba Sa, an extremely good Vietnamese restaurant. Please bring cash or be prepared to Venmo or Zelle your "table captain" as they don't always offer separate checks. We usually have a large party for this event, so we break up into smaller groups of 5 or so as their seating doesn't accommodate large parties. This is one of the best Vietnamese restaurants I have been too and always look forward to this trip that we take every August. Explore the pretty Bainbridge downtown area and a very good regional museum that is only a 30 minute ferry ride from the city! We always go in late August to ensure excellent weather - the view from the ferry of the Seattle skyline shouldn't be missed!
