Hollywood Here We Come...

Hear the ‘Behind-the-Scenes’ Stories About

How Two Atheists Filmed Disaffected Pastors

Who has more fun than Atheists?   Atheist filmmakers, that’s who. Folks, meet Michael Dorian and Marc Levine of Other Animal Films, filmmakers extraordinaire!

You’ve probably seen Dorian and Levine filming at some of our NYC Atheists meetings, but you may not know that the duo has traveled the entire country, from Texas to Boston, from California to Florida, to film what may be the most extraordinary occurrence in our nation’s history of religion since Anne Hutchinson was banished Boston in 1638: The disaffection of hundreds of pastors from their religion and their “coming out” publicly as Atheists.

Heart-wrenching Stories

Dorian and Levine recognized this revolutionary phenomenon and decided to be the ones to film it and its heart-wrenchingly courageous stories of church ministers who abandoned their faith because they could no longer believe in god.

The two traveled nationwide to interview the pastors in their local areas. They captured the dramas, sometimes tearful, sometimes dangerous, sometimes hilarious, as they filmed the scorned pastors and recorded the high price some of them paid for bucking the local citizenry and the religious culture.

Filmmakers To Show Trailer

Dorian and Levine will exhibit the current trailer for their feature documentary, REFUSING MY RELIGION,  on Tuesday, April 16, at the NYC Atheists Discussion Group at the Stone Creek pub. The duo will discuss their experiences during the making of the film and tell how they were able to get a “behind-the-scenes” glimpse of America’s rapidly shifting religious landscape.  Then they will open up the floor to a Q and A during which you can question them or comment on their work.

To get a preview for the discussion, you can access and get a glimpse of the excitement this documentary film brings to the religious battleground.

Join Us If You Care

Join us if you care about what’s happening nationwide in the ongoing dialogue between religion and secularism.  Join us if you want to hear the inside story of how two filmmakers decided to expose a phenomenon that the church would like to sweep under the rug!

Join us if you want to meet two documentary filmmakers who took the risk of seeking out the real actors in this drama of disaffection from religion by people who are supposed to lead their flocks.  Come, and in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere with like-minded people, enjoy the creative work of our most talented Atheist movie makers!  Watch out, Hollywood, here they come!
