Croeso / Fàilte / Welcome! Come to learn about who your ancestors were and what they have left behind for you to know. Depending on how things go, the class may go shorter, but everyone is free to leave when they need.
I will probably start off the class with some cool traditional music in Gaelic and Welsh to set the mood and showcase some awesome examples of our living culture. After this, I would like to hear about what you would like to know. We will start there as I want to largely track the class based on the attendants' interests. If discussion is not focused or lively, I will move on to a brief discussion of Celtic languages and then move on to the origins of Celtic peoples.
I intend to have this as a recurring class. If no one shows up, then I will still plan to be there doing my own Celtic stuff.
Possible topics of discussion: Ancient, Classical, and Medieval Celtic languages, festivals, philosophy, natural science, medicine, music, architecture, weaponry, astronomy, folklore, literature, social structure, law, religion, clothing/fashion, and traditional customs. Language and history will be the biggest lenses through which we will discuss all other topics because everything is rooted in the language. The Welsh say: "Fynnonell pob diwylliant yw iaith" / "The font of all culture is language." And the Irish Gaels say "Tír gan teanga, tír gan anam" / "A country without language is a country without a soul."
See you there!
