What we're about

Autism Society San Diego is a non-profit organization that originated in 1966 as the National Society of Autistic Children. It served to unite and inform parents on new revelations concerning intervention therapy. Today, the organization serves as the voice and resource of the local autism community. Members include parents, relatives, friends, advocates, medical professionals and educators throughout San Diego County and beyond. Our Board of Directors composed primarily of parents, autistic individuals, and experts in the field of autism serve the chapter on a volunteer basis. As an affiliate of the national organization, the Autism Society of America, we share in their mission of improving the lives of all affected by autism by promoting meaningful participation and self-determination for individuals with autism and their families. Our programs and outreach include: Six Support Groups per Month, Monthly Pool Parties and Monthly Family Gymnastics Events, Two Summer Camps: CAMP I CAN and Surf Camp, Pool PALS Aquatic Programs, Support and Referrals Through Social Media, Email and By Phone, Adult Social Recreation Programs, Family Camps, and More.

I'm New: A Workshop for Those New to the Diagnosis and/or New to San Diego

This free, Zoom workshop is presented by members of the Autism Society San Diego board who have real world expertise on how to get started and navigate all of the services and planning for your loved one with autism. We understand how overwhelming and confusing this can be particularly when the diagnosis is new or if you have recently move to San Diego. The workshop will provide overview information for the entire lifespan including how to get started, school planning, financial planning, community services, medical insurance, public benefits and financial planning. There will also be information about community recreation and social programs. This workshop is open to anyone who is interested, even those who are "not" new to the diagnosis, but want to join us to learn more. We look forward to seeing you.
