Meditation & Spiritual Growth

Details

For the month of May, we will be reading Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer. This delightful book weaves together Kimmerer's personal experiences as a Potawatomi scientist and her deep understanding of Indigenous knowledge to explore the reciprocal relationship between humans and the natural world. The book emphasizes the importance of gratitude, respect, and sustainable practices in our interactions with the land. Through stories, scientific insights, and Indigenous perspectives, Kimmerer encourages a shift in our relationship with nature, urging us to view it as a gift and to reciprocate with care and responsibility

We will meet twice this month to discuss the book, along with meditation and mindfulness. At the very end of the month, I am hoping to schedule a guided plant identification walk with a local expert. Keep your eyes open!

I believe that one of the reasons our society is experiencing dis-ease is because we've lost our sacred relationship with nature. This beautiful book returns the reader to indigenous ways of prayer and being. We have much to learn from plants, if only we slow down and listen.
