Meditation & Spiritual Growth

Details
For the month of June, we will be reading The Four Agreements, A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom, by Miguel Ruiz. The author reveals the source of self-limiting beliefs that rob us of joy and create needless suffering. Based on ancient Toltec wisdom, the Four Agreements offer a powerful code of conduct that can rapidly transform our lives to a new experience of freedom, true happiness, and love. The Four Agreements are: Be Impeccable With Your Word, Don't Take Anything Personally, Don't Make Assumptions, Always Do Your Best.
We will start our meeting with a mindfulness and meditation practice, then flow into discussing the book.
The Second Agreement from Don Miguel Ruiz's "The Four Agreements" is "Don't Take Anything Personally." This agreement encourages us to understand that the actions and opinions of others are often reflections of their own realities, not a commentary on you. Here are some practical exercises to help explore and embody this agreement. Please bring your reflections to share with the group on July 16th.
1. Self-Reflection Journaling Exercise: Dedicate a few minutes each day to journal about instances where you've felt hurt or offended by someone else’s words or actions. Reflect on the possible motivations behind their behavior. Consider how their reaction might stem from their own experiences or insecurities, rather than a statement about you.
2. Feedback Perspective Exercise: Invite constructive feedback from trusted friends, colleagues. counselor, or mentor. After receiving feedback, reflect on it separately from your identity. Ask yourself if the comments are factual and whether they deserve your emotional investment.
3. Gratitude Practice: Every evening, list three things you are grateful for about yourself. These could be accomplishments, qualities, or moments that brought you joy. Focusing on what you love about yourself can help mitigate the effects of negative comments from others.
