Reimagine South Boulder Advocacy meet up at city council
Details
Reimagine South Boulder Recreation is a grassroots group of neighbors, families, athletes, seniors, and taxpayers who care deeply about the future of the South Boulder Recreation Center.
Our goal is simple:
Preserve the lap pool, gym, cardio equipment, weight room, classes, and programs that serve Boulder residents of all ages.
For decades, Boulder has followed a clear reinvestment pattern:
North Boulder Rec was renovated roughly 30 years after opening.
East Boulder Rec is now receiving significant reinvestment at a similar lifecycle stage.
That pattern makes sense. Facilities age. The City reinvests. The community benefits.
South Boulder Rec has not followed that pattern.
In 2015, the City publicly stated that the South Boulder Recreation Center was nearing the end of its life. Eleven years later, the facility is now over 50 years old — and it has never received a meaningful renovation commitment.
Meanwhile, the center continues to serve a dense residential area within walking distance of seven schools. It is one of the clearest examples of Boulder’s “15-minute neighborhood” in action.
This is not about luxury upgrades.
This is about preserving core community infrastructure.
Before any irreversible decisions are made, we are calling for:
• A clear public reinvestment plan
We believe thoughtful investment across all recreation centers is possible — and necessary.

Subject: Please Prioritize Investment in South Boulder Recreation Center
Dear Mayor and Council Members,
I am writing to urge you to prioritize reinvestment in the South Boulder Recreation Center and preserve its core amenities, including the lap pool and gym facilities.
South Boulder Rec is over 50 years old and serves a dense residential area within walking distance of multiple schools. It has not received the reinvestment pattern seen at other recreation centers.
Before major changes are made, I respectfully request a clear public reinvestment plan and to prioritize South Boulder Recreation Center.
Thank you for your service and consideration.
Sincerely,
