I just launched Bonfire, an online forum and idea community at http://lappincouncil.bonfireapp.com/.  I invite you to join our conversation.

The website, which is a first for a New York City lawmaker, is a place to share your thoughts and ideas with other New Yorkers. It’s a way to bring us together to brainstorm, collaborate and help solve problems.

Each month I will post questions on a different topic. Users can offer ideas and vote on each other’s suggestions. You can also see which ideas are “hot” based on the number of votes and views they receive.

This month’s focus is education and the questions include:
  • What has your principal done to handle this year’s budget cuts?
  • In what grade should language instruction begin? Which languages would you like offered at your school?
  • What are the most successful things your Parents Association or charity has done for fundraising?
  • Which healthy lunch options would you like your school to offer?
  • What should be done with the extra space at P.S.158 when P.S. 267 moves out?
  • Why should people who don’t have children care about our public schools?

At the end of the month I will share your ideas with other community members and decision makers at the Department of Education.

Next month, we’ll focus on transportation questions.

So please log in and share your ideas about how we can improve our city.

Best,
Jessica Lappin
