Our meetup operates at the intersection of emerging technology and international development.
Decentralized technologies including blockchains enable communities rather than corporations to control both a platform’s development process and its runtime. These platforms run in the open, on compute resources provided by the community, and they run open code that operates on data in a way that anyone can verify.
This presents radical new opportunities to build services that are open and accountable and available to individuals across the globe, not just those traditionally served by the technology industry. We are interested in applications in financial inclusion, access to identity, property rights, energy, and many others. The meetup is not specific to any particular technology stack and hopes to showcase projects from different industries and areas of the world.
We welcome participants and speakers interested in or working on technologies targeting social change and global development. Our group comprises developers, tech and social entrepreneurs, and individuals working in international development. We aim for our events to include and encourage people of diverse perspectives and experiences.
