  • Saturday Social Meetup at City Place
We traditionally have a large (typically 15-30 people, but as low as 10 and as high as 45) social meetup every two weeks. This gives everyone an opportunity to come and make new friends, practice their Japanese or English, and spend time with a bunch of interesting people from the U.S. Japan, and elsewhere. Close to Boylston on the Green Line, or Chinatown on the Orange Line. Also a short walk from Park Street or Downtown Crossing. • From Boylston Station, go south on Tremont Street (away from Boston Common), then take a right onto Stuart Street. The food court will be on your right; you enter the building right by the Dunkin Donuts. • From Chinatown Station, go west on Boylston Street (toward Boston Common), then take a left onto Tremont Street. Turn right onto Stuart Street. The food court will be on your right; you enter the building right by the Dunkin Donuts. There is a map of the area below. If you have trouble finding us, please feel free to call or text me at[masked]. If you want to come to dinner, please be there by 6 or so, although we sometimes don't leave until 630. It usually doesn't work to join us at the restaurant, as we are often short of space. Come on by, relax, practice in either language of your choice, and enjoy being part of our growing community! The Meetup generally does not end at 6 - instead, some time around there, we go out to Chinatown for dinner afterwards to eat family style - anyone who wants to come is welcome. The cost is usually around $12-20/person (not including any drinks for which people pay their own way). We are open to restaurant suggestions. However, I am not willing to get into dividing up large numbers of orders on one giant check, which is why we generally go to Chinatown and split everything down the middle. If you don't want to eat at all, you can come and just enjoy the company for free. Please BRING CASH if you can and want to go to dinner - many of the restaurants limit cards to two per table, so if a lot of people have no cash it can be a problem. Parking: We recommend public transit, as the building parking is something like $24. But if you are willing to walk 10 minutes or so you can park at the Post Office Square Garage for $9 (weekends). https://www.posquare.com/rates-hours/ Stuart Street view

  • Back Bay Japanese Evening Table
This week we're meeting at Lir near the Prudential Center. 7 pm to 10 pm Grab a few drinks and some delicious food. Whether you're learning Japanese or English, buy a drink, join the table, and practice your new language in a friendly and relaxed environment. If you're a beginner or just interested in culture, you'll fit in fine! Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn and practice over a few drinks. Can't make it on time? Need to leave early? Not a problem. Just stop by if you can! If you are >21 and plan to drink, please bring a MA state issued ID or passport. Other state IDs may not be accepted. Please order at the bar and take care of your own tab. Transportation: I highly recommend using public transportation. Not only is driving while intoxicated dangerous, but there may not be any parking available in the area. A lot of the parking in the area is Residential Only in the evenings, and many of the signs indicating this are very well hidden. Also, watch out for those hidden street cleaning signs! If you insist on parking in the area, be aware that meter maids love handing out parking tickets around here. Ordering: 1) Order all your drinks and food from the server. 2) Open a tab with your credit card when placing your order or pre-pay as you go. Don't forget to tip. See you there! ~Lindsay and Doug

  • Museum Fine Art, Boston open house - posted for information
This event is posted for information. Free admission at MFA after 4 P.M. every Wednesday (you will be asked for donation, however, it's not mandatory). It's a public open house of the art museum for everybody and is a great chance to get touch with Boston's art culture and see the masterpieces for free. I will likely not attend. Also, there is free live dressed model drawing program at the open house. (there is no live dressed model drawing but just drawing object on last Wednesday of a month) . Drawing materials such as canvas, paper, and pencils are provided by the museum so you don't have to bring your own unless you want to use your own. Ask at the admission desk where the drawing program is, because the location varies. Enjoy! • Talk over drinks in Kendall Sq. Cambridge
(隔週木曜日にChampionsで開催されるミートアップに関する重要なお知らせです。日本語は下にあります。) Heads up! The Champions Thursday meetup is changing to meet with our venue’s policies. It is still being held every other week. http://www.championscambridge.com We’ve been guests at this restaurant for many years, and feedback is that the restaurant works well for many people. As our group has gotten larger, it’s put more of a strain on the restaurant’s ability to serve us and the rest of their customers well, and they’ve asked us to make a few changes to improve everyone’s experience. We’re going to try them out to see how it goes for everyone. We are very interested in your feedback with these changes in place. 1) Attendance will be limited for the near future while we get used to this new system, so it is very important that you keep your RSVP current. If you know you can’t attend, please let us know as soon as you can, so that we can add wait listers onto the guest list. Also, **RSVPs are now required.** If you show up and haven’t RSVPed, you will be turned away. We appreciate the interest and hope you understand, it is in the best interests of the group. 2) There is a $15 minimum spent per person. If you plan on joining only for conversation, please consider attending one of our other meetups. 3) Regarding food. In order to make it easier on the meetup organizers, we are moving to a smaller menu so that it’s easier to estimate what each attendee owes. The most popular items from the appetizer, sandwich, entree, and salad portions of the menu will still be included. This menu can change with enough feedback, so if you really miss something, let us know! 4) As for the bill, previously we’ve had individual checks, but this has been difficult for the venue. We are going to try a single check system. That said, you can still pay individually: keep track of how much you ordered, then either pay with cash, or say “put X dollars on this card”. **Menu prices will include tax and tip, so it is just a matter of adding together the dollar amounts of what you ordered.** Thank you for your cooperation while we adjust to the new policies. As usual, please bring your driver's license or passport, if you would like to have alcohol. They are strict about IDs, no ID = no booze. People who can’t or aren’t interested in drinking alcohol are very welcome! Champions is mainly a restaurant. Just remember the $15 minimum. Champions is located at MIT/Kendall Sq. station. If you come from Boston side, you will see it right in front of the T exit. It is part of the Marriott. Even though the address is listed as 50 Broadway, you can really only see it from the Main street side. We are usually to the right of the host station, either at a long table near the front or the small one closest to the rest rooms if it is a small group. If you can’t find us, you can ask the hostess for the “Japanese meetup group” and they will point you to us.
