What we’re about
If you don't believe in supernatural entities or powers, if you are concerned about religious intolerance or religiously motivated violence, if you rely on human reasoning and science to guide your decisions and behavior, if you have a naturalistic view of the world, or you just don't believe in God or gods, you are not alone. The Boulder Atheists group provides presentations, meetings, and serves as a social community for atheists, agnostics, rationalists, secular humanists, Brights, and free thinkers in and around Boulder, Longmont, Lafayette, Broomfield, and surrounding communities in Northern Colorado.
Boulder Atheists wish to promote the understanding and acceptance of atheism with public education, good deeds, public activities and affiliations with other local and national secular groups. We strive to be inclusive to ALL and promote gender equality, LGBTQ equality and racial justice.

- Monthly Presentation: Democratizing AI Before It’s Too LateBoulder Public Library - Main Library, Boulder, CO
AI is a gathering storm. Society will need to retool to accommodate this force that will soon be far more capable than all humans combined. Many pundits fear that AI will undermine society with mass layoffs and tireless surveillance.
But what if “we the people” worked to use AI to keep AI in check? What if we empower and transform ourselves, with AI, into a political force powerful enough to get “a seat at the table”? We could then insist that our future be more of a “fully automated luxury communism” than a “techno-feudalism.”
Let’s think about an AI made by the people and for the people. How would this technology provide us with trusted information and lift us out of our current post-truth, socio-political paralysis?
About Our Speaker
Ralph Hughes trained in economics and business forecasting at Stanford and is now a retired business intelligence consultant. Author of three books on database design and project management, he’s a volunteer instructor on AI and political economy for Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Currently he is working on a fourth book that outlines the dangers of generative AI and illustrates how the public could better participate in determining its impact upon society.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
