Run to Ouzel and Bluebird Lakes in Rocky Mountain National Park

Details

This Saturday we will be heading to the Wild Basin side of Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP). The route is an out-and-back so you can easily cut it short to get your desired mileage, but bring a map because there are lots of intersections. We'll head first to Ouzel Falls (8 miles round trip), then Ouzel Lake (12 miles round trip), and finally Bluebird Lake. The full distance is about 15.5 miles with 3200 feet of elevation gain, so plan on 5+ hours.

All options include Calypso Cascades, Ouzel Falls, and one of the best views of Mt. Meeker, so regardless of your distance this run won't disappoint.

Carpool options:

  • North Foothills Trailhead (map) at 6:30am – At the intersection of Broadway and Hwy 36, head north on 36 a few hundred feet. Turn right onto the dirt road. Trailhead is a little ways down on your left.
  • Moxie Bread Co in Lyons (map) at 6:50am - 442 High Street, Lyons, CO

If you prefer to meet at the trailhead (map), note that parking is limited, it's not well labeled, and there is no cell signal. Plan to arrive around 7:20 - we will start running around 7:25.

After the run we will have trailhead breakfast. Please fill out this form with your meeting location and what you plan to contribute for breakfast.

No dogs allowed in RMNP.
