What we’re about

Learn the different methods of meditation such as breath counting, mindfulness of the breath, and middle way reality in free weekly meditation classes and half-day meditation retreats at Middleland Chan Monastery. Learn the basics of meditation and let your mind settle so that you may rediscover your heart's tranquility.

Dharma talks and lessons also help you learn how to incorporate Buddhism in your everyday life to help you resolve problems or confusion. Some of the topics covered in the classes include: the history of Zen Buddhism and the teachings of the Buddha such as “The Meaning of Zen,” “The Four Noble Truths,” “The Noble Eightfold Path,” “Six Paramitas/Perfections,” “Emptiness and the Middle Way,” and “The Principle of Causality.”

Classes are taught by the Abbess and completely free. We sincerely invite everyone to join our meditation classes, to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere here, and to find the meaning of life through meditation practice and Dharma education.

"The aim of meditation is to achieve stillness, purity, clarity and awakening of mind. When the mind has awakened, one is truly practicing the Way. " -- Grand Master Wei Chueh

"To practice Buddhism is to learn from the Buddha, to emulate his purity of body, speech, and mind. When we have achieved the highest and most perfect standard in our cultivation, we will attain the Buddha’s compassion, wisdom, and samadhi power." -- Grand Master Wei Chueh
