A too hot to hike summer series event!

So I am doing something different. There is actually a prelude to this event I will offer. You can attend that with me. You can find the mystery bonus activity by reading all of this. It is just for those interested in that.

I love the Breakfast Club. I saw it in theaters and showed it to my kids. John Hughes wrote what is to me one of the best coming of age films ever made. Largely in set in just one room. Could you imagine the pitch meeting? "Okay the Movie is kids sitting in detention on Saturday. Sounds exciting right?" "John what have you been smoking?"

John Hughes had a great run including Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, and Uncle Buck, and writing Pretty in Pink and Home Alone. A couple of those pitch meetings probably were not easy.

Kind of a tough sell on a detention movie though. I was in detention on a Saturday one single time in my Senior year (long story and a very rare time I was caught. Not that I ever did anything bad, as far as you know. A boy needs his secrets and mystery). It wasn't anything like the movie. I was so disappointed.

I set my expectations way too high on detention only to be disappointed.

Sigh! The girl in my homeroom who looked like a cross between Sandra Bullock and Cindy Crawford had apparently not misbehaved and wasn't in attendance on the same weekend.

"Dear Mr. Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. But we think you're crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us - in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain... and an athlete... and a basket case... and a princess... and a criminal. Does that answer your question? Sincerely yours, The Breakfast Club"

That is the ending monologue of the movie. Everyone is different, no one has had it exceptionally easy, and their struggles are also different, but also very real. They learn some acceptance for each other. Differences can be good. It is not accepting the differences of the other person that so often gets in the way of finding happiness in friendships or love.

My point? Well, we're not in detention and this is actually on a Sunday. I guess I don't have one. We do actually do a pretty good job of accepting each other. Let's keep doing that, but the Brunch club. Breakfast is a little to early on the weekend.

If you do this with me you have to accept the fact I am a lousy bowler.

What you were expecting something deeper?

Kind set you up there.

Got you to read this far.

So first we can take all of our different heinies over to Whiskey Cowgirls for Brunch.

Check out their menu here.

I can't decide between the PB, & J Omelette or the Burnt Pig Breakfast.

Then it's on to The Southside Social to Bowl. Or whatever games you want to do there like pool, darts, and other stuff. We will just try to figure out all that when we get there.

More info here.
The Southside Social

If you want to bowl leave something in the comments. I will try to make some reservations. If I have to pony up some money to hold a lane we will figure it out.

Bonus activity?

Oh yea. I have been quietly going to the 9:00 am service at

Silverdale Church-St Elmo Campus
4500 St Elmo Ave, Chattanooga

I will attend the 9:00 am service. You can come if you want. I am a back row dude. Look for me on the back row, If you feel weird going in by yourself let me know. I am pretty weird myself. I will wait and walk in with you. just message me and let me know you're coming. After I am running to the my apartment to change and walk over to Whiskey Call Girl. I live pretty close.

Full legal disclaimer if Sandra Bullock calls all of this cancels and I am taking her out to Easy Bistro for Brunch. The girl from my homeroom has married and had four kids... So there's Sandra instead.
