A Moveable Feast Series-Late Friday Night Bites

I’ll front load the event because I get a little controversial here. Just don't read it.

What: A Moveable Feast returns. Late Friday night bites.

When: Friday September 19th. 8:00 pm (I know its freaking late, but I have a long drive)

Where:Southside Pizza Menu
612 E Main St.
Chattanooga, TN 37408

Just skip the rest of this. After getting beat up all last week from both sides I was in a mood.

A little more serious than my usual ramblings, but bear with me. Not bare with me. That is reserved for Sandra Bullock.

"Food is the great connector, and laughs are the cement. If we go out to eat and have a nice meal, that's one thing. If we can share a laugh, now we're friends."
-Phil Rosenthal

"You learn a lot about someone when you share a meal together."
–Anthony Bourdain

A teaching moment. A moment of reflection. Ramblings of a madman. Whatever. A just plain be a freaking decent human being thing.

Share your happiness here. I’ll share a moment from this weekend.
Last week was a difficult week for me. I dealt with hate from every conceivable end of the political spectrum. Hate is hate no matter where it comes from or where you’ve posted. If you put it out on the infobahn you’re wanting others to see it. You are not keeping it to yourself. You are making it the business of others. Suffice it to say that your participation is both voluntary and discretionary here. Those who seek to add fire to the already vitriolic climate that exists can, will and have gone to share their unhappiness somewhere else. I helped them make that decision.

The good moment

Akram owns University Pizza and Deli. He serves Mediterranean food. Best Falafel /and Hummus ever. He knows me. He has sat down and eaten with me. We have talked laughed and gotten to know each other. We are very different people, but he is a very wonderful person. I planned a meetup, and we were eating there. I walked from my place to clear my head. About five people were already there. He walks out and sees me. Grabs an order pad and pen and comes over to the tables. He gets the attention of the group. “Listen, I know this guy. This is liable to end up with 12-14 of you by the time everyone shows up. I have a lot of online orders so here is the guy who is going to take your orders.” He plops the pad and pen into my hand and disappears into the kitchen. The wholly untrained, and unprepared me begins going from person to person and taking their orders.

He was right.

More showed up.

Several late comers raise their eye brows when the handsome, charming, and all around magnificent waiter who is amazingly modest retrieves the pad and begins taking their orders as well.

I didn’t screw up on anything!

Food comes out by the loads. I get lost in conversations. I looked up from the deafening din of laughter and conversation and realized something profound. There were not only people from different counties, but different countries, Races, ages, beliefs, and politics. We enjoyed each other and the moment.

It was a good moment.

Be like the people I had dinner with Saturday night.

If you have a heinous hateful thought keep that scheisse to yourself. I know everyone has a right to your opinion that you’ve put out into the ether unless it comes back to bite you in the ass. Then you become confrontational and say it’s your own business on your own page.

I was also called a name the following morning from the other end of the spectrum for eating at the place. That happened too. I asked a close childhood Jewish friend from NY if eating at that place made me the name I was called. Their response was “No that person is stupid, but is the hummus really that good? The falafel? Really?” Could have given a scheisse about the person who was trying to defend he and his people by hurling insults at me. Was the Hummus and Falafel really that good?

They are folks.

Join me for Pizza and a beer Friday night. Just talk and laugh put all that other stuff aside and realize the person you are having a meal with may be different, but good.

Fill the meal with really good moments.

I am tired. Been verbally assaulted from all sides this past week, but I got it off my chest. Just want to get a pizza and beer with some cool people.
