Nestled in the stunning Flinders Ranges of South Australia, Moonarie is a trad climber's paradise, offering some of the most exhilarating climbs in the country. The rock quality here is often compared to the legendary Mt Arapiles, but Moonarie cranks up the adventure with longer approaches and a remote, untouched setting. Imagine scaling an orange sea of rock with no crowds and breathtaking desert vistas stretching out before you!
Sure, it's a bit of a trek—about a 12-hour drive—but that just makes it perfect for a longer trip. I've picked dates that include the Grand Final public holiday, so we can make the most of it. Just be prepared for a true wilderness experience: the campsite at Moonarie has no facilities, so we’ll be bringing our own water and getting back to basics for toileting.
To join this adventure, you’ll need to be (trad) lead certified with the club, and ideally have completed the rescue course. You'll want to be confidently leading around grade 15 or ready to enjoy a bit more seconding. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
